Shop Local Treasure

Building a marketplace for local shops. Antique booths, boutiques, and makers deserve to be found online. No paid plans, building in public. Follow along.

local consignment shops will take stuff off your hands without the age gate. you keep less per item but you skip the whole listing and shipping grind

@BadassMommyTTV that screenshot is the whole problem. you're trying to sell a bodysuit and some guy asks for modeling photos. marketplace mixes real sellers with creeps

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@lilly123aj etsy gets you search traffic but stickers are a crowded category there so the same discovery that finds you also buries you. ko-fi's missing discovery is a real wall though

Google Maps puts a pin on your shop and a phone number next to it. Useful if someone already knows your name. But a shopper searching for a specific vintage lamp or dresser still has to call or drive. A pin shows the place, not what's on the shelves.

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@mannovischk the radius assumes you're a crow flying in a straight line. your mountain corridor means everything useful is along one road, so a circular filter is basically useless

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

Your inventory lives in Instagram posts that scroll away in a week. Someone searching for a vintage lamp isn't scrolling your feed for 45 minutes hoping to spot the one you posted last Tuesday. A post is not a page.

You sold out at your first craft fair and thought, this could work. Then three weeks pass. No sales, no inquiries. The buyers who loved your stuff can't find you between events. An Instagram profile is not a storefront. People scroll past. They need a page that stays put.

Farm stands get found because people drive past them. Antique booth vendors don't even get that. You're down an aisle, behind other displays, inside a building most locals have never walked into. No drive-by traffic. No way to search your shelves from a phone.

@b0ttl3caps keychains are a solid first product, cheap to make in batches and easy to ship. the design grind is the best part, soak it up

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@GLaDOSapologist the fb marketplace paradox is real, it's where the local buyers already search but the app makes you not want to open it. you're not wrong for wanting the reach without the platform

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@lyricstitches 2k sales of history gone is gutting. but your listings already proved they convert once, you're not starting from zero the way a new shop would. that catalog knowledge is still yours

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

Etsy is built for shipping nationwide. But your vintage dresser is sitting in a booth in Ohio, and your best buyer is probably forty minutes away, not four states away. A national marketplace optimizes for reach, not for 'who's searching five miles from here.'

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

Slow sales usually means slow discovery, not bad inventory. Your vintage jewelry isn't sitting because nobody wants it. It's sitting because nobody nearby knows you have it.

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@jacechu listing fees add up fast when half your booth finds sit unsold for months. paying to list before you've sold anything is the part that stings the most

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@StormriderStory that first all-day upload session is the hardest part, you did it. early weeks on etsy are slow for nearly everyone, the favorites and views compound as your catalog grows

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@BanishedSon foot traffic that doesn't convert is frustrating but the questions people ask are data. they're telling you what catches eyes, just not what closes the deal yet

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@nialls_version the audience from your shows is your first etsy customer base. people who already saw the shirts in person are the ones who'll seek them out online first

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@erinlee1971 French Provincial nightstands with hand-painted detail, those are going to catch the right eye fast. local pickup is a smart move for furniture that size, nobody wants to ship a bombé chest

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

@inVEZtigator_ broad net search is the worst. you type something specific and get three pages of unrelated listings. it should just show what's actually available nearby instead of casting a net

[Shop Local Treasure @monkeybrls]

You just signed the booth lease and unloaded three carloads. Now what? The antique mall gets weekend foot traffic, but nobody within twenty miles can search your shelves from their phone on a Tuesday. Your inventory exists. Online, it doesn't.
