I went hiking in the Atlas Mountains in search of Barbary Macaques. Luckily I didn't get beheaded like other foreign tourists, but the only monkeys I found in Morocco were in neck chains. The government allows this cruelty in the name of culture⚠️

Jemaa el-Fnaa is a UNESCO World Animal Cruelty Site.
Endangered macaques - stolen from the wild - are chained and beaten for the entertainment of tourists. @UNESCO

UNESCO endorses severe animal cruelty in Marrakesh and calls it "culture".
Instead of stripping Jemaa el-Fna of its World Heritage Site status, they continue to promote it.

The brutal treatment of monkeys in Marrakesh 🆘
The Moroccan government supports this blatant cruelty, as does UNESCO by designating Jemaa el-Fnaa a World Heritage Site. @UNESCO
Disturbing images of #Barbarymacaques imprisoned inside crates, dressed in children's clothes, chained by the neck & dragged around by street handlers as photo props to 'entertain' tourists in Jemaa el-Fnaa square market #Marrakesh, #Morocco: Take Action: https://t.co/UOnUc6F4fi
Monkeys in Marrakesh are beaten and chained for tourist selfies 🆘

A message from The Humane Society of Morocco:
🏟 If you are near a stadium hosting a Morocco match, gather peacefully outside with signs and banners condemning the mass killing of dogs in Morocco 🪧
