The NEET UG has been cancelled !

The cost of conducting this exam Nationwide is approx 1000 crore + which means this is the amount of money wasted to re conduct it .

The nation wants the govt to answer what they have learnt from 2024 NEET UG exam leak ? If they can provide security to an entire state for conducting elections why can’t they do it for conducting an Exam that is linked to the future of entire Nation ?

In this entire failure of conducting exam properly the loss is not of the govt but of those 23 lakh families and specially the honest Aspirants who scored marks and studied day night for it .
Will they compensate their mental harassment that their families have gone through ?

Nothing destroys a family quietly like alcohol addiction.

He was 34.
A chronic alcoholic with decompensated liver disease.
The only earning member of the family.
A pregnant wife.
Two children. 5 and 2 years old.

Three months ago, he came to us gasping for life.
Massive ascites.
Melena.
Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis with shock.
Decreased sensorium

He was intubated.
Spent nearly a week in the ICU.
Esophageal varices were banded.
Blood, antibiotics, albumin, inotropes, everything we could offer.

He survived.

Before discharge, we didn’t just write prescriptions.
We involved psychiatry.
Alcohol de-addiction counseling.
Repeated warnings.
Clear conversations about what the next drink could cost him.

For two months, he followed up regularly.
It felt like a small victory.

Then yesterday, he was brought back by his friend.

Altered sensorium.
Deep jaundice.
Bloody vomitus.

ICU again.
Intubation again.

This time, his reports told a brutal story:
• TLC off the charts
• Bil, INR and creatinine severely deranged
• Hemoglobin and platelets critically low
• Ascitic fluid packed with cells

We started everything, broad-spectrum antibiotics, PRBCs, platelets, FFP, albumin, octreotide, inotropes.
Nothing was missed.
Nothing was delayed.

Still, he kept slipping.

Today, he died.

Afterwards, his wife told us something quietly.
For the last 15 days, he had stopped all medications.
And started drinking again with his friends.

I looked at her.
Pregnant.
Holding a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old.
Crying Without pause.

And for a long time, I didn’t think like a doctor.

I thought like a human being.

Alcohol didn’t just destroy a liver here.
It took away a father, a partner, and a future.
It left children too young to remember his voice.
And a wife carrying both life and loss at the same time.

Alcohol addiction is not a “personal choice” problem.
It is a medical disease with social consequences.
It drains families emotionally.
Pushes households into poverty.
Overwhelms healthcare systems.
And leaves scars far beyond the patient.

Every drink has a ripple effect.
On spouses.
On children.
On society.

Some patients survive liver disease.
Many families don’t survive alcoholism.

This one will stay with me for a long time.
