From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome .....
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
As 'Freedom Day' approaches, here is a reminder of Emma Lazarus's sonnet inscribed on The Statue of Liberty:
"Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. (1)
@AnnieWithBooks @thelauratheory_ Sorry - I stumbled across this.I see you are a writer. You may not enjoy James Joyce, or understand his writing. That's fine. We all have different tastes. But to call Ulysses and most of what he has written pretensions drivel is, to put it mildly, unnecessary.
@lenctyler@NHSuk Oh, Len! I'm so sorry to hear this. Good to hear that you were given such prompt attention. Wishing you a speedy recovery - and lots of rest!
