🇳🇵 Those giant spiral stones in the clip are not fossils washed out by this week’s Himalayan flood.

The footage is from Jomsom, on the Kali Gandaki in Mustang — a different river system from Rasuwa’s Bhote Koshi. The town sign is in the frame. Muktinath is nearby. The August 26 disaster struck hundreds of kilometers to the east.

The large black stone with the perfect spiral and saffron cloth is a 22-foot Shaligram Sheela replica, carved into a riverbank boulder during a Nepal Academy of Fine Arts workshop from April 20 to May 4, 2026. Local officials billed it then as the world’s largest Shaligram replica, one of about 18 sculptures cut along the Kali Gandaki. It was already a pilgrimage photo stop months before the flood.

Authentic shaligram stones are fossil ammonites from the same river, usually small, naturally formed, and worshipped in Vaishnava tradition as a form of Vishnu. That religious meaning is real. The claim that these house-sized carvings were “unearthed by the cataclysm” and are “the largest ever found” is not.

The Rasuwa search continues separately. As of Friday morning Nepal Police had recovered 469 bodies across eight districts; about 977 people remain listed missing in Nepal, including 517 foreign nationals. A barrier lake upstream is still under watch.
