The BJP's ultimate goal is to turn India's democracy into an empty show where people vote, but the winners are already decided. The steps they are taking to make this happen are clear:

1. Take control of the referee: Change the rules so the government gets to handpick the Election Commissioners without any independent check from the Chief Justice of India or the Leader of Opposition.

2. Protect loyal officers: Give Election Commissioners legal immunity so they can never be questioned, sued, or punished in court for their wrong doings while in office.

3. Delete votes quietly: Use sudden voter list cleanups and complicated paperwork to take away the voting rights of millions, especially communities that do not support the ruling party.

4. Redraw election maps: Use the upcoming seat-redrawing (delimitation) process so that regions where the BJP is strong get far more seats in Parliament than the rest of the country.

5. Push One Nation, One Election: Force all state and national elections into a single day so the entire process can be controlled from Delhi, making it impossible for people to hold leaders accountable for local issues.

Once all these pieces are locked into place, the ruling party will be able to hold onto power permanently while claiming everything is legal.

The only way left to protect our rights is for ordinary citizens to take to the streets in peaceful, united protest. This fight is not about any political party. It is about saving your vote, your children's future, and the freedom of our country.

Another U-turn. Another admission of guilt.

The widest-reaching impact of @IndianExpress' Election Commission investigation yet.

10 days after our investigation into the rupture inside the Election Commission, the poll watchdog has told all 20 states where SIR is over to run a “special drive” to bring back voters “left out” of the rolls.

State CEOs have been told to identify voters deleted as unmapped or for “logical discrepancy” and that BLOs should go house to house to help bring them back. They will use Form 6 to apply for inclusion of such “left out” voters.

And the question added to Form 6 in July, asking whether your parents were on the last SIR roll, which one Commissioner called “unauthorised/illegal,” now applies only during the “SIR phase.”

What does that mean? In the 20 states where SIR is over, “left out” voters and first-time voters will use the plain statutory Form 6, without the question seeking details of their family’s link to the last SIR.

The ongoing protests are fundamentally about the BJP manipulating elections through a compromised Election Commission and state machinery, for which ample evidence is now in place.
Blaming the opposition misses the entire point. It is like arguing that the kid who topped the exam last year should be allowed to cheat openly just because the second-ranked student didn't study hard enough.
The issue is not whether the Congress ran a good campaign or has the ability to win. The real issue is that even if an opposition party ran a flawless race, it could never win because the referee has rigged the playing field to deliver one fixed result, completely ignoring the people's mandate.

This fight is not just about today. It is about whether genuine democracy survives in India for decades to come. By choosing to sit on the fence on something this fundamental, you are failing both your profession and the nation.

Rajdeep, You are set to play a match against a team and you have realised that the umpire has clandestinely changed the rule book in collusion with the opposing teams captain. For every boundary or a six that your opposing team hits, they will get 8 or 12 runs while your team will get only 2 or 3 runs. At that point, you don't sit in the drawing room and think whether I am captaining the team correctly, if I am getting my playing eleven right or how do I hit more sixes. It's time for you to go out there and get the fair rules reinstated, change the umpire and get the cheating umpire and the opposing teams captain legally prosecuted. Else you and your future generations can never hope of winning a world cup.

Shared this cricketing analogy as you are a cricketing fan. I know you already understand this but my sense is you don't say it out loud to 'appear' neutral. But at this point, as a prominent journalist and citizen, if you don't express openly, you are not neutral, you are part of the problem.

@shinjineemjmdr You may not be stupid. But their constituency is. They were waiting for some straws to hang on to. This was aimed at them and I am sure this has done the job it was meant to.

1) The so-called policies of the BJP in reality are just dole-outs by a system that believes in a Mai-Baap culture. They introduce many of the schemes at will during elections and also shut them down or scale them down once that political purpose is served. Real upliftment happens when the needy are supported through appropriate legislation. Classic examples of this are the rights to education, food, employment and information that Dr. Manmohan Singh introduced during his tenure. They became legally enforceable rights for the people, not acts of charity that depend on executive whim, and are thus structural and sustainable.

2) The post makes it seem like the social media trolls are operating independently of the BJP. On the contrary, the reality is that the PM sets the tone with his jibes, the mantris and santris follow the cue and the trolls take it whole another level. They may have primarily created these troll armies for the opposition and the minorities. But the Frankstein monster was bound to go after all easy targets, particularly women. So don't blame the trolls alone. The people who put them in that position are equally responsible.

[aastha @aashtthaa]

BJP is the most feminist party in India, they implemented many pro women schemes, their 70% schemes are women centric, these polices have changed and uplifted millions of women at the ground Level

Yet, on social media, BJP considered as anti-women because many pro BJP and RW accounts openly post misogynistic and anti women content, it reflects in posts, posted by those accounts

BJP should get rid of these misogynistic, anti-women accounts and shouldn't save them when someone files a complaint against them. Good women-centric governance ruined by misogynistic, anti-women social media trolls.

Unfair to Ambani and Reliance to quote them as examples of billionaires not investing in India. The bit around 'green energy chod...' is also factually incorrect since he announced ovee 75k Crores in new energy few years back and over half of it is already done. The investments he made in Jio is the real backbone of digital India and will remembered as one of the most consequential impacts that private sector had on India, especially in an AI world. These investments also have multiple 2nd/3rd order impacts. So it's not that a big deal if his retail business invests a minor sum in ice cream since they believe in vertical integration. Also most of Ambani's investments are either B2C or B2B unlike Adani who primarily focuses on businesses where the Government has a significant role to play. Ambani may have his issues but not investing in India is not one of them. P.S. I have a personal stake in Reliance.

The press note issued by the EC states that henceforth it will circulate agendas in advance and issue minutes of meetings. It also directs the officers of the EC to comply with the directions of the Commissioners. When an institution has to formally spell out such basic processes and responsibilities, it has largely failed to function effectively and raises serious questions about its institutional accountability. It's press note is an admission of guilt.

This guy&s dismissal of the IE investigation as a hit job comes across as deeply biased and says a lot about his objectivity, credibility and intentions. People in positions of influence who conduct themselves in this manner have played a significant role in the institutional decline we see in the country today.

This is a big bad joke. Make fake allegations. When the truth comes out say that the fake allegations are justified because there is a clarification exposing the fake allegations. What a big Sham. These journalists are Masters of fake allegations, activists, not journalists. @Iyervval All EC members had signed off on all decisions taken till the fake allegations were made by this journalist. Now this journalists says that This fact of unanimous decisions so far justifies their allegation. What logic is this. Pure propaganda by vested interests.

It's imperative that the Congress emerges as the leader of the protests against vote chori. With the call to opposition to boycott the elections, CJP at a minimum comes across as naive, given their inexperience. If they are seen as the face of the protests and possibly declare victory when Gyanesh resigns, the momentum may get lost. If that happens, new stooges will take his place and we will back to square one. @INCIndia's call for criminal prosecution of Gyanesh is the outcome to push for.

[Gems of BJP @Gems_of_BJP]

Explain this to me.

CJP is not aligned with any political party. Ok

They are concerned about the issues of citizens. Ok

So when principal opposition party is already protesting against CEC, why can’t they just join them and increase the numbers?

Why are they launching their own campaign?

Anyone who demands the same thing as they do should be their ally, right?

Or are they waiting for 140 year old party to reach out to them lol !! That’d be massive ego that none of their founder even remotely deserve.

Rahul Gandhi held his initial press conference in August 2025. By October, Election Commissioners had begun placing their dissents against the Chief Election Commissioner on the official record, later becoming a centerpiece of the Indian Express investigation. While RaGa's briefings initially appeared to gain little traction, they seem to have provoked enough institutional unease to compel officials to build internal paper trails. Those very records have now become critical pieces of evidence

The BJP is protecting the Election Commissioner, but more importantly, it is protecting its leadership.

If an Election Commissioner is committing such a serious crime against democracy, it is practically impossible that he is doing it without the full support of the leadership.

For opposition:

Yes, elections are being rigged. But when you continue to participate in rigged elections, you legitimise these elections and help maintain the illusion that they are free and fair.

Maybe you keep contesting because you fear that if you don’t, you will stop existing. But what kind of existence are you trying to protect when votes are being stolen, your MLAs and MPs are being poached, and your parties are being split?

This is not political survival. You are simply trying to stay alive in a system that can weaken you, split your party or take away your elected representatives whenever it wants. How long can you survive like this?

And you cannot talk about election rigging only when it happens in states that matter to you and remain silent when it happens elsewhere. If elections are being rigged, it should matter regardless of the state or which party is affected.

You cannot keep saying the game is rigged while continuing to play it. Your participation is the only thing that gives these rigged elections legitimacy.

Think about the nation and its democracy before thinking about your own political survival. Take a stand and stop participating in rigged elections.
