News Update: #SecondLife will soon roll out new subscription plans that will allow an opt-out of stipends for a lower price each month, allowing residents who want the other perks of Premium Plus and other plans to get them without paying higher costs that include stipends.

Side note: I’m not actually participating in #nobuyaugust in #secondlife because I don’t believe in boycotts or resolutions. I’m just more conscious with my time & money in SL nowadays. I do support those that feel taken advantage of, bullied, or pressured to spend more, though.

@metarealities2 @gogolita LL should have been hiring Madpea to create permanent experiences for residents, not limited time offerings. People that come into SL are aimless and want to be where they can meet people or do things. Leave the creators to make more affordable packages for us & focus on QoL.

FWIW, I don’t want to see Second Life go away. I’ve actually always wondered why creators have gone to Sims & not tried to offer a Patreon model for SL. Are we not receptive to paying outside of SL? Are the fees greater with Patreon than Tilia? Are we just a different audience?

@metarealities2 @gogolita Country clubs are seeing resurgence in popularity - not because of the golf courses. It’s because members want a place to socialize. They’re taking initiation fees (like 50k usd) & using them to add new amenities millennials are into, then using monthly dues for maintenance. 1/2

@metarealities2 I believe you would probably have to connect Patreon and SL to a discord account. The discord username would then be tied to an in-world resident name. Then they would use one of those systems (or a group) to distribute that month’s releases. DFS does it. https://t.co/1qcGHqLVte

I wasn’t going to talk about this because it’s a dramatic topic. Just so #secondlife residents know, some of their fave creators have been releasing stuff on Patreon (then free) in #sims4 #thesims for at least 2 years. It’s stuff they sold to you in SL. You deserve better.

@Prokofy @gogolita I’ve been a video gamer since I could sit up at a computer/console. I play so many games that don’t involve any human interaction at all and I’ve never felt unsatisfied about it. If some people are not connecting or failing to connect as residents, there’s alternative options.

@Prokofy @gogolita Also the idea that SL is more interactive is debatable and largely comes down to how many expansion/functionality packs you buy (on sale). There’s dogs, cats, horses. You can build whatever house you like. I know there’s also adult stuff but I’m not familiar with how it works.

@Prokofy @gogolita But you’re an oldbie that’s been around forever and know people. There are plenty of residents that never found their “people” or don’t like dance parties. They also might have friends who quit and communicate with them through a chat program. Sims is fine for those people.

Okay looking further, it seems like brands like Bergdorfverse and PARE may have started in Sims first. However, my point still stands that if all you’re doing is logging in, shopping a sale, and logging off, you can have all this for free or cheap in Sims.
