My Taekooker Origin Story:

I was a pandemic ARMY, but I had always been into K-pop, casually enjoying music from different groups. The pandemic was when I really started watching RUN BTS, BVs, and pretty much everything BTS-related. Mind you, they were already part of my jogging playlist, so I knew about them, but only through their music.

My sister, who was the one who got me into BTS content, told me she was a Taekooker. But she was also a Larry fan, so her credibility was pretty low in my eyes. 😂 Plus, I’d been into K-pop long enough to know all about fan service.

BUT I also have way too many gay best friends, some of whom came from exclusive boys’ schools, to understand that gay people exist in K-pop. Especially when you put them all in one house together during training—these boys experiment for sure. So yeah, I was hesitant, but open-minded.

Anyway, I was always following BTS (Jin-biased, but slowly shifting toward Taehyung) when I noticed this tiny moment in a Grammys 2020 clip.

Not the one where they were really looking like boyfriends, going as far as making the world curious about them, but the part where TH lingered just long enough for them to have a shot of the two of them together—a cropable shot of just the two of them.

It was such a tiny moment, but it was also so glaring to me. It signified a lot about intention and keeping things secret.

And that was when I started focusing on them and watching them more closely.

So yeah, that was how I became a Taekooker. 🫠
