@AutSciPerson Access through the mass is key. My autistic friends have spoken up for years about autism speak being evil and behavorial approaches. When I became parent of an autistic child, it took a LOT of Googling and deliberate excluding of words to even start finding better results. ):

@were_duck We have explained most of these customs as "social stories" to our kids. Stories that people love to make-believe or true-believe. It works for tooth fairy, santa, easter bunny, and religious occasions. We tell them which we celebrate, and to respect other's opinions on them.
