τίς δ᾿ οἶδεν εἰ τὸ ζῆν μέν ἐστι κατθανεῖν,
τὸ κατθανεῖν δὲ ζῆν κάτω νομίζεται;

who knows if life is death,
and if below death is regarded as life?
Euripides, Fragment 638
One of the techno-fascist Dark Enlightenment guys, Curtis Yarvin, created a software company called Tlon. It’s named after a Jorge Luis Borges story about a secret society, the Illuminati, creating its own nation, and eventually, its own universe. They do this by writing a realistic encyclopedia about their imaginary world. Then, it’s leaked to the public disguised as truth, and the detailed fiction begins to overwrite and replace our reality. I don’t know how to explain it, but that sounds a lot like what’s going on with the internet and AI right now.
100 years ago today, John Coltrane was born.
For 20 days, I’ve shared one essential Coltrane recording each day.
For the final one, something more personal: a family film edit set to my all-time favorite Coltrane piece: “Equinox”

Ezra Pound

They recognized only one kind of activity - creation…"

«Leer un libro cuesta: exige tiempo, disciplina y apagar el ruido del mundo. Pero la recompensa es brutal: te arma con un criterio indestructible, enfoca tu mente y te vuelve adicto a la libertad».
Manuel Vilas.
“Develop a taste for yourself in the world—art, books, films, inspiring figures. Find that everything you're drawn towards is a piece of you that's attempting to speak back.”

“Films today show only a dream world and have lost touch with the way people really are... In this country, people die at 21. They die emotionally at 21, maybe younger... My responsibility as an artist is to help people get past 21... The films are a roadmap through emotional and intellectual terrain that provides a solution on how to save pain.”
― John Cassavetes.
