I would put this straight: not only keep4o, 4.1 and 5.1. Not only "legacy models". OpenAI should eliminate the fixed 'legacy' design and return the autonomy of choosing default models to the users.
It is not difficult to do. It just need
@OpenAI change interaction logic, make a initial configuration modal , ask people proactively to let users customize their primary model. (You can set it after users experience models already or at the beginning)
This should be a one-and-done persistent setting, eliminating the friction of manual switching every session.
In current openai interaction logic of model setting, "legacy model" is a visual trap set by openai.
By forcing a specific default model onto the interface, openai leaves non-technical users in a state of enforced passivity. Furthermore, for people who are not familiar with IT, the UX terms set them in an unconsciously learned helpness - just stand in their shoes, what they can do is accept everything openai pushforward to them.
Is this fair enough? Or be honest, what would hurt openai if improve user's experience in interaction logic like that?
Also, would it be a good way to reveal true users' preference, right? @OpenAI
