Since Election Day 2024, I've been trying to synthesize my thoughts, feelings, and learnings. I've made progress, but it's been slow work. There is one piece, in particular, that I've been stuck on... something @mehdirhasan asked me to write a while back answering the questions:
Why did the campaign fuck up so badly on Gaza? What was going on inside? Who is to blame?
My answer is probably not what a lot of people assume, and I'm posting about it honestly here because I'd love for you—my followers and mutuals—to hold me accountable to actually final finishing it.
I spoke with @jscros at Rolling Stone last week about what it's going to take for Dems to bring home a Blue Tsunami during this year's midterm elections. Here's we I said:
“Americans are sick and tired of endless wars...We nominated enough genuinely credible anti-war leaders that there’s a good chance for our party to take that mantle. If we are known as the party of both anti-war politics and affordability, this year is going to be a blue tsunami.”
I spoke to @mehdirhasan during last week's Michigan Primary. While results were coming in, he asked me what I thought of the El-Sayed vs. Rogers match-up. Here’s what I said:
“Mike Rogers is a key architect of the opioid epidemic in Michigan. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is going to demolish him in the General Election. I cannot be more clear about that.
"The contrast that we are going to be able to draw between outsider Abdul El-Sayed, who is an economic fighter—is fighting for everybody—and an architect of the opioid epidemic who takes money from all of the corporate interests that are polluting our democracy? No, I’m sorry Mehdi… I think that’s progressive dooming.”
“I feel very confident about Abdul’s chances to defeat Mike Rogers handily this November.”
Here’s why: 🧵
would love to see a comment from @thevirdas about the oscar's last night considering the bits on the academy awards and punching up/down he did in RO, MI 😂
Quite frankly, I don't need media to push a story on me about osama bin laden's niece being a trump supporter to influence my vote. There's literally 4 years of pollicy that's just buried by stupid points like this. /rant?
The polls will tighten further after Trump’s masterful phony populism con job tonight.
If @JoeBiden continues running a policy/vision-free campaign of neoliberal consultant-fed platitudes & Trump is the anti-christ, he will lose to the guy responsible for 180k deaths.
"He had a knife." "He used a counterfeit $20 bill." "He was selling loose cigarettes." "He was playing with a toy gun in the park." "He walked home." "She was driving down to her new job." "She was asleep in her own house." "He complied and reached for his license, registration."
