@ArmyMudPuppy Been doing this near 20 years, AO for maybe 12. Never told, never been told, you have to self fund near $10k in gov required travel with another $16k coming up. Understand the accounting-how do we do this to Soldiers? I have the means, what about someone who doesn’t?

@ArmyMudPuppy Prior authorized and travel completed prior to 26 SEP. voucher came in under the auth amount. Understand since I’ve been an AO, but they’re using an arcane unit level rule that moves intermediate approval and final vouchers to a delayed state as it is.

@TecumsehBurning I’m in mission critical now, but travel through the pacific gets pricey. I’ve got legs of travel that hit $6k in flights alone. They need to give me a $30k limit or find a way to prioritize active travelers.

@justinchirped Only anecdotes to refute this. “Units knew”? Sure buddy. Ok. Here’s my anecdote from surge: our BDE was notified 9 mo before HSAD, and was in country 12 months after notification. Before that it was “war is over man, we are never going”. So much for knowing “years in advance”

@justinchirped Much respect to those that know it’s time to leave. Also, knowing stupid guard politics, I had the state SGM try to pull my 1SG off a deployment 3 weeks before we left because “it’s only a SECFOR mission”, so I take any perspective of choice/politics into account as well.

@justinchirped I think some folks with more recent experience don’t realize that there’s a lot of time added with congressional and service requirements in the retirement phase, but we’ve processed regular retirements here in <60 days. Had one go so fast he was retired before I was notified.

@justinchirped Its mind boggling that it’s cheaper to pack a family and fly to Disney Paris/Tokyo than it is to go to Disney World for same number of days. They’ve priced themselves out there in Florida.
