I think all of humanity can sort itself into two basic people types: the ones who deal with differences by making statements, and the ones who approach differences by asking questions. I think the former have always outnumbered the latter, and this is why violence exists.
Really grateful to @JennaSchmenna for writing such an entertaining & character-driven murder mystery, which I could not put down. For me, the social drama alone--and getting access into so many different character inner lives!--made my reading experience riveting and rewarding.
People say, “I don’t need to read fiction.” You absolutely do. The world is currently being run by rich, antisocial, amoral men who have never opened a book, and you need only look around to see the damage it’s caused. Empathy & curiosity are vanishing because people don’t read.
They called him sleepy Joe because you could go to sleep knowing you wouldn't wake up to the news that he bombed a country and captured their president.
I'm not one for New Year's resolutions or any of that, but if I may be bold enough to make a suggestion, read a book, preferably a novel, for just five minutes every night before bed. We know via scientific brainwave studies that it will improve your mental health and give you more empathy.
My wish for you all: May 2026 be your best year yet. 💙
don't make other people's decisions for them. apply for the job you don't think you'll get. let them decide if you have the skills they're looking for. tell that person you like them even though you think they're out of your league. let them decide if they like you. stop trying to predict and control everything. bring what you have to the table. let the rest go.
THE NEW YEAR'S PARTY is out in the UK today, and has been out in the US for 1 month! 🍾🍾🍾
To celebrate, I'm giving away 10 copies (ebook or paperback) in the US! Comment and RT to enter 🥳
The loneliness epidemic is too much of a reality for folks to be out here posturing like community means anything but a mutual investment.
Your two friends who don’t know each other but will invest in your safety and well-being is also a community. Make sure you nurture them.
Idk what a healthcare system would look like that actually accommodated sick and chronically ill people, but in my mind I picture a lot more drive-thru situations for starters.
Overheard: LeBron James with no father, no education, no training, and very few role models, they handed this young, dirt poor kid $420,000 per week, at the age of 18!
He married his high school sweetheart, was never arrested, never used drugs, never humiliated his spouse with side chick stories. No outside babies.
Never in the news with so much as a parking ticket.
Excellent father. Heavily involved with his kid's activities.
Greatest player on the PLANET in the game today!
16 years later. Same dude. Same maturity. Same chick. Same family. Reputation intact. Now earning close to $2 million per week. Has sent 1100+ kids to college fully payed for.
And you hate him...why?!?!
something i wish more people understood about autism is just how INTENSE and ALL-CONSUMING our internal worlds are. you think i’m intense on the outside???? this is with literally 99% filtered out, there is a whole universe in there
Something I've come to realize recently is that all the times I was told I was annoying (yes, people actually told me this 🙄) or treated like I was... the things people found "annoying" about me were all related to my autism...
- I can be extremely literal and feel the need to correct misinformation (which usually seems minor to others, but never to me)
- I can "overcomplicate" things that others consider simple (even though, in my own mind, they are not simple at all)
FYI... Autistic people tend to think in complexities.
Someone can ask us to do something seemingly straightforward, but our brains will often make it into something extremely complex and nuanced.
We ask questions to untangle our thoughts.
Here's a list of all the supplements I'm taking to help with my long COVID symptoms. I'll also be using affiliate links so if you do make a purchase here, the proceeds will go directly towards buying more supplements for myself. Circle of life lol.
This process is what men like Jonah Hill do not understand. If a partner is making you uncomfortable, you do not get to control them to ease your discomfort. Cowardly men do this bc they are afraid of their own emotions. This is also why these men can be dangerous in therapy.
@sensorystories_ Many people mistake meltdowns for tantrums (esp with children) but I think my partner described it well. Give a tantruming child (or adult) what they want, problem solved. Doing that for a meltdown doesn't work. It's not about getting what you want. It's the overwhelming feelings
