As an analyst, a voter, and a survivor of both political science theory and diplomatic practice, 3 thoughts on upcoming elections (that may apply to #Bosnia#Serbia and even the #UnitedStates )
1) Votes count
2) Some win, others lose
3) Technology doesn’t always work

"This is very weak stuff. Indeed, as Fredrick the Great observed, 'Diplomacy without arms is like music without instruments.' Chancellor Friedrich Merz has failed an important test here."

Very sorry to learn of the passing of Raif Dizdarević — who fought against the Nazis as a teenager and became Yugoslavia’s head of state. I will always be grateful to him for generously sharing keen insights, humor, and valuable time with me. https://t.co/KBm5lG4lPh
The strength of the U.S.-BiH economic relationship was the focus of today’s meeting between Charge d’Affaires, a.i. John Ginkel and Serb Presidency Member Željka Cvijanović, including discussion of opportunities to expand trade and investment ties between our two countries. #USAinBiH

This morning @SecRubio opened the first Strategic Dialogue between the US and Serbia. I was honored to welcome my friend, Foreign Minister @markodjuric, and sign two Memoranda of Understanding that open the door to deeper and lasting engagement between our countries: one on energy and the other on education. Today was truly a landmark day in the 145-year US-Serbia partnership, which has greater potential than ever. 🇺🇸🤝🇷🇸
Met today in Washington with @NASA Assistant Administrator for Interagency Relations Kathleen Karika.
Serbia’s accession to the #Artemis Accord reflects its clear determination to participate in global initiatives shaping the future of peaceful #space exploration.
This step also represents an additional impetus for the development of young researchers and engineers, as well as for reinforcing #Serbia’s competitiveness in the high-tech sector.
I gladly invited NASA representatives to visit the Specialized Exhibition #EXPO 2027, emphasizing that this event will provide a venue for presenting cutting-edge scientific achievements.
As part of his meetings with leaders from all of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s religious communities, Acting High Representative Louis Crishock met today with Jakob Finci, President of the Jewish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They discussed the importance of interreligious dialogue, and the valuable role religious communities play in fostering mutual understanding, social cohesion, and the country’s continued development.
“Our shared values are far greater than our differences. Interreligious dialogue strengthens trust, promotes mutual respect, and reminds us that we all share responsibility for building a peaceful and prosperous future,” said Acting High Representative Crishock.
In its July 14th meeting, the PIC SBA reaffirmed their shared commitment to appoint a mutually acceptable candidate to serve as the new High Representative, as a matter of urgency.
Until such an agreement is reached, the PIC SBA noted without objection that Acting High Representative Louis Crishock will continue to exercise the mandate of the Office, in line with the PIC SBA statement of June 30.

“The 🇪🇺 and its member states have no coherent policy towards 🇧🇦 [or any other non-NATO member in the Western Balkans], and in the capitals they (still) do not care enough to make it a genuine priority.”
Today, 4 July, the 🇺🇸 marks 250 years of independence.
Three days ago, the 🇺🇸 Embassy in #Sarajevo held its Independence Day reception – and it revealed more than the occasion required.
Under the American flag, in the centre of Sarajevo, the #Trump administration assembled almost the entire political class of 🇧🇦. They came from Mostar and Banja Luka.
The prime ministers of both the state and the entities were there. So were Bakir Izetbegović, the Republika Srpska opposition, and the full leadership of HDZ BiH.
Milorad Dodik was absent (!) – but his son and the entire #SNSD leadership in his place.
So the question is no longer whether 🇧🇦’s political class wants to work with the Trump administration. It plainly does. The question is what it expects or hopes in return – and what Washington expects and wants from it.
The contrast with the 🇪🇺’s Europe Day receptions in Sarajevo and Banja Luka in May is hard to miss. Those events drew nowhere near the same attention.
There is a comfortable explanation: the 🇪🇺 does not practise politics in the transactional style this 🇺🇸 administration has adopted.
There is a less comfortable one, and it is as close to the truth. The 🇪🇺 and its member states have no coherent policy towards 🇧🇦 [or any other non-NATO member in the Western Balkans], and in the capitals they (still) do not care enough to make it a genuine priority.
Political attention follows power. Right now, in Sarajevo, it is not flowing towards Brussels.
With the largest ever US flag in Europe, flying from TV tower - #Lithuania says-
