Years back I preached a series on Christian liberties. Various people in my church were wondering if it was okay to dress up their kids and take them out on Halloween to get candy, to read Harry Potter, to smoke, . . . So I did a series on that subject and created this "Christian Liberties Truth Grid" to help people out.

If you are interested, I just posted my entry level series on systematic theology with downloadable/printable PDFs. The series is called "Biblical Doctrines to Live By." I hope to make videos of me teaching through this series as I get time. It is a text driven, practically applied, life changing series. It usually takes me about 25 weeks to teach through this series at a driving pace. https://t.co/1FEvg1c4LV

Will there be a return to sacrifices one day? Here is what the Bible has to say on the issue and how a return to sacrifices can coincide with the all-sufficient sacrifice of Christ.

I love this definition of grace by G. S. Bishop found in A. W. Pink's Attributes of God:

“Grace is a provision for men who are so fallen that they cannot lift the axe of justice, so corrupt that they cannot change their own natures, so averse to God that they cannot turn to Him, so blind that they cannot see Him, so deaf that they cannot hear Him, and so dead that He Himself must open their graves and lift them into resurrection.”

C. H. Spurgeon speaks of those who are troubled by the doctrine of election and says: "Many burdened souls have been greatly troubled concerning the doctrine of election. It is part of the craft of Satan to take a truth which is more precious than fine gold, and to turn it into a stumbling-block in the way of a sinner who is coming to Christ. The doctrine of election is like a diamond for brilliance; but the devil knows how to use its sharp edge to the grievous wounding of many a poor sinner.

“You are not elect,” says Satan; “you were never chosen by God: your name is not in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” How easily the sinner might answer the accuser if he were but in his wits! He might say, “How do you know that I am not elect, and that my name is not in the Book of Life? God has never authorized you to convey to me this doleful news, therefore I shall not distress myself about it.”

Why should we let such a fear as this keep us from Christ, when we do not let it keep us from other actions? A man is very ill, and his wife says that she will fetch a physician. “No, my dear wife,” says he, “it is no use fetching a physician, for I am afraid I am predestined to die.” Here is a man who is travelling, and suddenly he meets with an accident. Of course, he endeavours to extricate himself; but if he were to talk, as some do in spiritual matters, he would say, “I do not know whether I am ordained to escape, and therefore I shall not try.”

Does a shipwrecked sailor give up swimming because he does not know whether he will ever reach the land? Do you give up working because you do not know whether you will get your wages? Do you cease eating because you do not know whether you are ordained to live another day? Do you refuse to go to sleep because you do not know whether it is decreed that you are to wake any more?

Nay, but you go about the affairs of life independently of any thoughts about the Divine decree, and in that way the Divine decree is realized in you. You are bidden, in God’s Word, to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ; and I will tell you one thing, that is, if you do believe in Christ, that is proof positive that you are one of the elect, and that your name is in the Book of Life.

I have never seen that Book, but I know that no soul ever did believe in Jesus whose name was not already recorded there. If thou comest to Christ, repenting of thy sin, I know that God has chosen thee unto eternal life, for repentance is God’s gift, and it is a token of His everlasting love. He says, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.”

God draws us to repentance and faith by the bands of His love because He has loved us from eternity. So, let not that blessed word “election” ever trouble you. The day will come when you will dance at the very sound of it; and, then, nothing will fill your heart with such music as the thought that the Lord has chosen you from before the foundation of the world to be the object of His special grace."

Olive Tree (Rom. 11):

Olive tree: sphere of Abrahamic covenant blessings

Root: Abrahamic promises to patriarchs

Natural branches: Israel (believing remnant remains; unbelieving broken off)

Wild branches: believing Gentiles grafted in

Future: Israel grafted in again

“Wherefore, there are two things hard and difficult in this case:—

“1. To convince those in whom sin evidently has the dominion that such indeed is their state and condition.

“They will with their utmost endeavour keep off the conviction hereof. Some justify themselves, some excuse themselves, and some will make no inquiry into this matter.

“It is a rare thing, especially of late, to have any brought under this conviction by the preaching of the word, though it be the case of multitudes that attend unto it.

“2. To satisfy some that sin has not the dominion over them, notwithstanding its restless acting itself in them and warring against their souls;

“yet unless this can be done, it is impossible they should enjoy solid peace and comfort in this life.

“And the concernment of the best of believers, while they are in this world, does lie herein; for as they grow in light, spirituality, experience, freedom of mind and humility, the more they love to know of the deceit, activity, and power of the remainders of sin.

“And although it works not at all, at least not sensibly, in them, towards those sins wherein it reigns and rages in others,

“yet they are able to discern its more subtile, inward, and spiritual actings in the mind and heart, to the weakening of grace, the obstructing of its effectual operations in holy duties, with many indispositions unto stability in the life of God; which fills them with trouble.”

"Spiritual growth is the decreasing frequency of sin. You sin, but you just don't sin as often. You don't sin with the same familiarity, the same speed, and the same consistency. It begins to slow down and diminish. It is the increased sensitivity to sin." 🎯

This Easter, I invite you to look at Jesus, consider what he said and did, and ask for yourself what I believe is the most important question you will ever answer: Did he really leave behind an empty tomb? And if he did, what does that mean for you?

This video was made possible and in collaboration with my friends at @ChildlikeMedia.
