Whenever you wake up is your morning, but those who wake up the earliest often have an advantage.
People often tell me that I speak well and intelligibly. This is true but it’s really not because I’m unique or particularly more intelligent than the average person.
I speak in a fast, regular cadence and I have mostly eliminated filler words from my vocabulary.
One thing I find with Nigerians is we often speak slowly with long pauses which gives the listeners’ mind time to wonder and we often drag words or sentences so the mind doesn’t have a “rhythm” to latch on to.
I’ve had a ton of practice. From childhood, my dad put us all on the spot to make speeches in public so all my siblings are great public speakers. You have to be cause you don’t know when Sir Dr. Aladekomo will call you to give a speech at the birthday party of someone you’ve only met twice in your life.
Please never ever have kids if you think your child is a passive or neutral observer of your relationship dynamics as their parent, or that those dynamics don’t or shouldn’t shape them in any way. Children learn about communication, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, boundaries and relationship expectations by watching their parents/caregivers. It is absurd and dehumanising to treat your child as a mere bystander in the life you created for them.
Kelani left school at 18 because he could not wait to learn how to use a camera properly. He worked as a cleaner in London to pay for film school. He sorted mail at Christmas to complete his diploma.
