Recent energy disruptions revealed vulnerability at the heart of global supply ➡️ overwhelming fossil fuel dependence.
For shipping, this vulnerability runs deep. That's why a global framework to diversify fuels is necessary. More @FredKrupp via @Forbes: https://t.co/FT2mQ2Jy27
📩NEW open letter to @COP29_AZ Presidency calls for decisive action on #hydrogen. It's clear that for #H2 to live up to its climate potential, we must urgently align intn'l standards.

🆕💡 New paper in @Nature: Researchers from @UTAustin show how much the climate impact of blue #hydrogen can vary + how important it is to get the accounting details right for the #45V Hydrogen Production Tax Credit. Some key takeaways 🧵⬇️
🪙 Protecting the intention of the #45V tax credit requires transparency about the true climate impacts of #hydrogen projects. Loopholes could derail billions and set back climate progress, writes @FredKrupp in new op-ed, via @opinion ⬇️ https://t.co/0LEMFgKzxJ
Come by our 3:45 pm Tech Session at the Hydrogen Americas Summit #H2Americas2024 to learn about the latest innovations in H2 detection. I'll be joined by @ENERGY@AerodyneRes & Element1
Fantastic to see @ARPAE announcing several new funding opportunities at #ARPAE24 -- including $20M funding for high-precision H2 sensors 👏
Hydrogen emissions detection & prevention is essential if we want to maximize climate benefits of H2 deployment.
Climate Scientist @ilissaocko@EnvDefenseFund gave testimony at the Public Hearing on #45V Treasury Guidance yesterday. Strong rules & incentives are needed to kickstart a truly clean H2 economy & contribute to U.S climate goals & international competitiveness. More ⬇️
📍 Join us tomorrow for a webinar hosted by EDF, @hystorenergy & @EnergyInnovLLC exploring the "Three Pillars" in the context of green hydrogen and the #45V tax credit. Hear from industry + NGOs on why this policy matters for a clean H2 economy. https://t.co/FaMQCJDBas
After reviewing 30+ reports on the 3 pillars – all w/ different assumptions – ERM’s report ultimately backs a 3-pillar approach.
It also offers insights on how Treasury’s guidance can be structured w/ targeted flexibility to meet it.
Takeaways here: https://t.co/YlRf5FKgEG
Green hydrogen isn’t always green…
Making hydrogen requires a lot of electricity, 3-7 times as much as directly electrifying. It really matters if the electricity it’s using is clean or dirty, AND if it takes power that would otherwise go directly to buildings & transportation.
That’s why @EnvDefenseFund, other enviro groups + many in the clean energy industry strongly support a 3-pillar framework to help green H2 deliver climate benefits. ⬇:
Recently, @USTreasury released draft rules on the 45V hydrogen tax credit, which will shape the new H2 economy and grid for decades.
The stakes for green H2 are VERY high, so we need to get the final rules right.
A new @GlobalERM report dives deep🧵https://t.co/YlRf5FKgEG
⚡️ Proposed #45V rules set a path for U.S. clean hydrogen, but to be an effective climate solution *all* emissions must be accounted for - including methane & hydrogen itself https://t.co/Z6bQaPyUgK
The #hydrogen hubs are in motion, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. H2 can help us decarbonize but only if it’s done carefully—and @EnvDefenseFund's BetterHubs initiative can help provide a roadmap. 1/7
