It was not God's idea for Solomon to marry many wives.

It was not God's idea for Abraham to sleep with Hagar.

It was not God's idea for David to commit adultery with Bathsheba.

The fact that the Bible records something does not mean God approved it.

Solomon had hundreds of wives and concubines, but his marriages brought him into idolatry and divided his heart from God (1 Kings 11:1–4).

Abraham listened to Sarah and went in to Hagar, and the result was conflict, jealousy and pain in his household (Genesis 16; 21:9–14).

David took Bathsheba, another man's wife, and his adultery brought devastating consequences into his family and kingdom (2 Samuel 11–12).

We must learn to distinguish between what Scripture describes and what God designed.

Go back to the beginning.

God created one man and one woman.

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” — Genesis 2:24

Not wives.

His wife.

Jesus reaffirmed this original design when He said:

“Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female... For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh.” — Matthew 19:4–5

Notice the language:

THE TWO shall become ONE flesh.

Marriage was designed by God to be a covenantal union between one man and one woman.

Proverbs 18:22 says:

“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.”

Again—a wife, not wives.

And Proverbs 19:14 says:

“...a prudent wife is from the LORD.”

A prudent wife is a gift from God.

God's original pattern was never confusion, competition, rivalry and divided affection.

God created marriage.

God defined marriage.

And when we return to God's original design in Genesis and the teaching of Jesus, we see the pattern clearly:

ONE MAN. ONE WOMAN. ONE FLESH. ONE COVENANT.

Just because something was tolerated or recorded in the Old Testament does not automatically make it God's ideal.

We should not build our theology from the mistakes of biblical characters.

We should build it from God's design and God's Word.

Polygamy may appear in Scripture as a historical reality, but that does not mean it was God's original intention for marriage.

Go back to the beginning.

That is where the pattern was established.
