It was an honor to share my insight on "Role of Nigerian Youth in the Global Internet Economy" at the just concluded vNYIGF20. Thanks to the planning committee @youthigf_ng for the great opportunity.
@IdrisAOni1 Dear Ustaz, can you also share some knowledge regarding husbands who do not have any form of sexual relations with their wives for years while they live together and still claims to be married.
Dear men, I just wanted to share this before I fully move on from this topic because I want posterity to see that I made an effort. It’s Saturday, and today is a good day to take that first step toward bonding with your kids.
We know it has been a very busy week, and you are tired. If you’re home, please try not to sleep all day. Get some rest, then ask your kids to find a book and read to you. If they fear you, calmly reassure them that they are not in trouble and that reading to you will make you feel better. Seeing that they can help you in a vulnerable moment will make them happy. Ask them to tell you their favorite stories. Do they like to play football? Watch them play and cheer them on. Do they enjoy playing “suwe”? Cheer them on while they play. Do you have any games at home? Play with them. Do they have a favorite movie? Watch it with them. Ask about their week. Find out what they like and don’t like about school. Talk to them about your work. Share what you do for a living and explain it in a way they can understand. Let them be close to you. Use a calm voice with them. Don’t let it be that the only time they hear your voice is when they do something wrong. As their father, be their confidant and comforter, not just their punisher. When their mother reports them to you, tell her to handle the situation. Don’t discipline them over everything. Sometimes, you just need to talk to them. Praise and boost their confidence when they do something right. When they make mistakes, encourage them to learn from them. Children will always be children; they will make mistakes. It is our responsibility to guide them. Make them comfortable in the house you built for them. Don’t let them walk on eggshells around you. Eat with them. Relax with them.
If you are not home with them, today is a good day to call and check on them. Don’t tell their mom to say hi to them, ask her to give them the phone so you can speak to them directly. If they fear you enough not to want to talk, ask their mom to put the phone on speaker. Don’t you think they would love to hear your voice? Don’t you think it’s important for them to know that you are okay? Don’t you think they miss their dad? Hearing your voice could make their day. Call them and ask what they ate. If their mom calls you to report them, tell her you trust her to handle it. She can discipline them too. When you get home, talk to them about it and give them tips on how to avoid making the same mistakes. You can speak to them for just a minute, and it will always be worth it. Tell them you miss them and that you can’t wait to see them. Showing that you care will give them comfort.
@piggyvest I have a free withdrawal day, trying to make a withdrawal and I still have to pay for breaking fee. How does this work? It's happened the first and this second time I have no breaking fee to pay. I just want my money asap.
@renny_theVA If you can withstand the heat from Aboniki balm. Mix it with spirt and spray deeply into the hair. Ensure it gets to the roots and tips, then cover with a nylon shovel cap for two hours immediately after and wash off with shampoo and conditioner.
The Importance of a Woman Earning in Modern Marriages cannot be over emphasised .
This is something we will continue to say, because silence around it has harmed too many women.
We have always said it, and we will keep saying it.
In today’s world, a woman earning is not rebellion. It is protection.
Financial independence does not destroy marriages. It protects dignity. It reduces fear. It gives a woman options, and options reduce vulnerability to abuse.
Many forms of abuse do not start with violence. They start with dependence. When a woman cannot feed herself, house herself, or support her children without fear, her voice weakens. Not because she is weak, but because survival becomes the priority.
In many modern marriages, especially within our cultural context, financial control is often mistaken for leadership. Yet where one person controls all resources, power becomes unbalanced. And imbalance creates room for emotional manipulation, neglect, and silence.
A woman who earns is not planning to leave. She is planning to live with dignity. She can speak honestly because fear of hunger, rent, or school fees does not silence her. She can negotiate, set boundaries, and seek help when needed.
This conversation is not anti-marriage. It is pro-safety.
We have seen too many women endure unhealthy situations simply because they had no financial ground to stand on. Endurance born out of fear is not virtue. It is captivity.
A woman earning does not mean disrespecting her spouse. It means she is less likely to tolerate disrespect herself. And marriages where both partners have financial means and freedom are often healthier, not weaker.
So yes, we will keep talking about this.
Not to encourage separation, but to prevent abuse.
Not to promote pride, but to preserve dignity.
Not to break homes, but to ensure women are not broken inside them.
Every woman deserves the ability to survive, decide, and speak.
Earning makes that possible and doable even in the toughest of situation
