The President conveyed the commitment of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State to eliminate all Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) to trade and remove other restrictions on the free movement of goods, persons, labour, services, and capital to deepen regional integration.
Today, I had the honour and pleasure of welcoming participants to the 25th East African Community (EAC) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Trade Fair being held at the Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.
Kenya is hosting this event, held on a rotational basis, at a time when it has been honoured as the Chair of the East African Community having hosted the 19th edition in 2018 in Eldoret City.
The Trade Fair has made impressive steps over the last 25 years since the first one that was held in Arusha, Tanzania in 1999.
Out of recognition of the important role that MSMEs play in socio-economic development, the Treaty establishing the East African Community in Article 80 (1)(c) commits EAC Partner States to take measures to facilitate the development of small and medium scale industries, including mainstreaming them in intra-regional value chains.

This morning, together with my colleague Hon. Dr. Wycliffe Oparanya, and members of the organizing committee, we visited the Kenya pavillion and EAC Secretariat exhibition stand as well as having a feel of the event spaces hosting exhibitors.
Over 3,000 exhibitors from all eight EAC partner states are showcasing a wide array of innovative products and services under the theme, "25 Years of EAC Integration: Advancing Innovation & Regional Value Chains for Competitive MSMEs".
