The Minister of Health, Dr. @BaryomunsiChris has today officially opened the Continental Supply Chain Coordination Mechanism at the National Medical Stores in Kajjansi.
This will serve as a gateway of all medical logistics during emergency and humanitarian responses on the African Continent.
National Medical Stores and the strategic logistics hub in Entebbe are becoming critical regional assets, supporting the rapid movement of laboratory equipment, medicines, personal protective equipment, vaccines and other essential commodities.
These facilities will continue supporting Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other Member States, ensuring that lifesaving supplies reach frontline responders quickly and efficiently.

Let’s act now.
The Ministry of Health has flagged off medical equipment and supplies for Nabilatuk and Karita Health Centre IVs to strengthen maternal and newborn health services in the Karamoja sub-region.
The equipment was provided under a partnership between Doctors With Africa (CUAMM) and the ELMA Foundation to support hard-to-reach areas. Through this collaboration, CUAMM is working to ensure that no mother, newborn, or child is left behind. The project will also support the functionalization of Karita Health Centre IV and the blood bank at Moroto Regional Referral Hospital to improve access to emergency blood transfusions in the region.
The items flagged off include blood pressure machines, vacuum extractors, mattresses, mosquito nets, a high-output generator, hospital bed sheets, blankets, and other essential supplies.
The equipment was received by the Commissioner for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health, Dr. Richard Mugahi, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine.
We take this support very seriously. We know the impact this equipment is going to have in our mission to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths. Karita is one of the most remote and disadvantaged areas in the Karamoja region, and the lack of a steady electricity supply has made it difficult to fully operationalize the theatre and wards. The high-output generator will help power these units and improve service delivery. ~ Dr. Richard Mugahi.
