Desmond: “Twelve years sir. Three terms”.

Gbajabiamila: “And what did you build?”

Desmond: “Sir I sponsored 11 motions, co-sponsored 42 motions, chaired four committees and….”

Gbajabiamila: “I did not ask about motions Desmond. I asked what you built”.

Silence.

Desmond: “Sir I also produced a 198 page compendium titled My Surulere and I So Far”.

Gbajabiamila stares: “You gave them a book”.

Desmond: “A very detailed book sir”.

Gbajabiamila: “Desmond, from Bank Olemo to Olawale Dawodu to Iponri to Masha, every community in Surulere is saying enough is enough. Not me. The people”.

Desmond: “Sir those ones are just propaganda. I don’t even know them”.

Gbajabiamila: “You don’t know your own constituents”.

Desmond: “Sir I know the important ones”.

Gbajabiamila sighs deeply: “Desmond I begged those people to take you in 2015. I personally went on my knees for you. Obasanjo called Tinubu. Tinubu called me. I called Surulere. Do you understand the chain of calls that put you in that seat?”

Desmond: “Sir I am very grateful and that is why I am saying if I have erred in any way I am deeply sorry”.

Gbajabiamila: “Erred in which way exactly?”

Desmond: “Any way at all sir. Whichever one you feel”.

Gbajabiamila: “You don’t even know what you did wrong”.

Desmond: “Sir whatever it is, I am sorry for it completely”.

Gbajabiamila rubs his forehead: “Desmond I have identified a replacement. Her name is Barakat Odunuga-Bakare”.

Desmond: “Sir a woman?”

Gbajabiamila: “Is there a problem with that?”

Desmond: “No sir. I just… sir I have twelve years experience”.

Gbajabiamila: “Twelve years of my experience. Not yours. Every road they praise in Surulere, I built before you got there. Every structure they point to, I laid before 2015. You inherited a structure and spent twelve years taking photographs in front of it”.

Silence.

Desmond brightens up: “So I have your support?”

Gbajabiamila: “I did not say that”.

Desmond: “But you said I can contest”.

Silence.

Desmond picks up his agbada slowly: “Sir should I go and see Tinubu directly?”

Gbajabiamila: “Tinubu is in Rwanda telling people to be transparent”.

Desmond: “Rwanda”.

Gbajabiamila: “Rwanda”.

Desmond stands up, adjusts his cap: “Sir I just want you to know that whatever happens, you are my leader, my father, my political compass and my…”

Desmond: “Sir”.

Gbajabiamila: “Go and focus on your acting career. Nollywood missed you”.

Desmond opens mouth, Closes it. Opens it again.

Desmond: “Sir at least let me do a cameo in 2027”.

Gbajabiamila: “This is not a movie Desmond”.

Desmond: “Everything in Nigerian politics is a movie sir. I have just been the supporting actor for twelve years”.
