Castroville, Texas was founded on Sept. 3, 1844, when 27 Alsatian immigrants crossed the Medina River and decided it would make a great spot for a town. It was right about that time that the John Burger House was built, making this edifice one of the oldest extant structures in Texas. 178 years ago and still holding up! If you've never visited Castroville and taken a walking tour of the town well, you should. It's sort of like an Alsatian version of Fredericksburg, only smaller and without all the tourists. My only sadness is that Le Chat Noir closed permanently. Dang they made some great food! But Haby's Alsatian Bakery is still going strong, so all is not lost! This is one of my own photos, taken in 2018.

Led by superstar’s Shaud Williams and Chris Trevino the Mustangs went 34-3, won the 4A State championship and spot as a top 100 team of all time in our baseball book.
Trevino was one of the best pitchers in all of Texas in 1998 and 1999.
