Writers, do you ever get visited by a story idea that you love so much but you know isn't meant for you? Like getting someone else's mail. Thank you so much for coming by, you wonderful idea, but I think you were looking for Ali Hazelwood.
The five stages of revising:
Denial: "My book is perfect!"
Anger: "I hate this stupid book."
Bargaining: "I will cut all of these unnecessary commas if I can keep all my unnecessary em-dashes."
Depression: "My book is bad and I should feel bad."
Acceptance: "My book is perfect!"
When you wake up at 3am and can't get back to sleep, because you know you finally get to write a BEAR FIGHT tomorrow and that's all you can think about. π¬
A partial list of the unhinged post-it notes on my desk as I'm writing this #wip:
-Wolf fight, sleepwalking, THEN bear fight
-Weird eclipse shadows for finale!
-Does this book need a creepy feast?
-Reindeer?
-Just a list of names, with an X next to the one's I've *unalived*π
Oh, the joys of being a writer:
Me: Writing a fun adventure historical fantasy about witches, werewolves, and Norse mythology!
Also me: Researching the politics, geography and transportation issues of the British Occupation Zone in post WW2 Germany.
Bestie: scooping cheerios out of her minivan by the handful.
Me: Hey remember when we used to go out and drink and party all night?
Her: Yup!
And then we dropped her toddler off at daycare and went to the gym at 7:30 am.πππ
I am convinced that every human has their own real life kryptonite. I have a terrible sense of direction (I literally can and do get turned around in my own neighborhood). I have also stripped every screw I have ever touched.
What's your kryptonite?
@sheylaknigge Oh my gosh...there are one or two BIG changes in there since you and Victoria read it. I apologize ahead of time for allllll the tearsπππ
Me: okay, so the characters will argue, and then they will get on the same page and help each other out, and that will push the plot forward.
My character: Goes way too hard, drops the mic, storms out.
Me: But...but the plot...
Don't mind me, just constantly comparing my new baby first draft to the polished book I just sold, while conveniently forgetting the months of grueling rewrites, revisions, beta reads, a whole damn R&R, and three rounds of agent notes that first book went through.
