Violent attacks extend to places of worship in #Sudan: an update about the raiding of the Al-Musalama Church

بيان حول اقتحام كنيسة المسالمة

The National Religious Freedoms Association (NRFA) strongly condemns the outrageous acts of violence carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the evening of Saturday, May 13, 2023, against the Al-Musalama Church in Omdurman.

This abhorrent incident not only terrorized innocent citizens, but also violated the basic principles of religious freedom and peaceful coexistence that our association strongly supports.

The storming of the peaceful Church is an appalling act that undermines the sanctity of places of worship and shows a flagrant disregard for the rights and dignity of religious groups.

We extend our sympathy to the affected church and the congregation and the wider community affected by this violent act.

NRFA is also deeply concerned by reports outlining the RSF militia using civilians in Khartoum State as human shields, storming hospitals, and converting them into military barracks.

Additionally, the RSF militia is said to be engaging in looting, killing, and committing other grave human rights violations, such as raping women and breaking into the homes of citizens from 15 April 2023 to date.

These acts are not only inhumane but also violate the basic principles of human rights and the sanctity of people’s lives.

We remain committed to promoting religious freedom, peaceful coexistence, and the protection of human rights.

We also stand in solidarity with all those affected by these grave violations and reiterate our firm commitment to working towards a society in which everyone can freely practice their faith without fear of persecution.

We urge the international community to join us in condemning these acts of violence and working together to stop all forms of human rights violations during the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

تدين الجمعية الوطنية للحريات الدينية بشدة أعمال العنف المؤسفة والشنيعة التي قامت بها ميليشيا الدعم السريع ��ساء يوم السبت 13 مايو 2023، ضد كنيسة المسالمة في أم درمان. إن هذا الحادث المقيت لم يرهب المواطنين الأبرياء فح��ب، بل انتهك أيضًا المبادئ الأساسية للحرية الدينية والتعايش السلمي التي تدعمها جمعيتنا بشدة.

إن اقتحام كنيسة المسالمة عمل مروع يقوض قدسية أماكن العبادة ويظهر استخفافًا صارخًا بحقوق الجماعات الدينية وكرامتها. نحن نتضامن مع الكنيسة المتضررة ونعرب عن أعمق تعاطفنا مع المصلين والمجتمع الأوسع المتأثر بهذا العمل العنيف.

علاوة على ذلك، نشعر بقلق عميق من التقارير التي تفيد باستخدام ميليشيا الدعم السريع المدنيين في ولاية الخرطوم كدروع بشرية، واقتحام المستشفيات وتحويلها إلى ثكنات عسكرية والانخراط في عمليات النهب والقتل وغيرها من الانتهاكات الجسيمة لحقوق الإنسان، بما في ذلك اغتصاب النساء واقتحام منازل المواطنين منذ 15 أبريل 2023 وحتى الآن. هذه الأعمال ليست غير إنسانية فحسب بل إنها تنتهك أيضًا المبادئ الأساسية لحقوق الإنسان وحرمة الحياة المدنية.

تظل الجمعية الوطنية للحريات الدينية ملتزمة بالدفاع عن الحرية الدينية والتعايش السلمي وحماية حقوق الإنسان. نحن نتضامن مع جميع المتضررين من هذه الانتهاكات الجسيمة ونكرر التزامنا الراسخ بالعمل نحو مجتمع يمكن فيه لكل فرد ممارسة عقيدته بحرية دون خوف أو اضطهاد. إننا نحث المجتمع الدولي على الانضمام إلينا في إدانة أعمال العنف هذه والعمل معًا من أجل وقف كل أشكال انتهاكات حقوق الانسان في السودان .
