There were times I wanted to give up on AC Milan. Times I wouldn’t eat just because we lost a game, and times when I wished I was supporting a club in the Premier League. But I tried to leave AC Milan and I simply can’t. This club has made me who I am today. This club comes above everything else. To me, if I don’t support AC Milan, I don’t think I’d ever watch another football match. I remember our glory days and also the banter era. I’ve been with this amazing club since 2005 and I have never regretted loving it. There were times I felt like walking away, but I simply can’t. Even when my ex broke up with me and I thought my life was over, the only thing keeping me going was this club called AC Milan. The heartbreak was so hard that sometimes I felt like crying, but you know what I did? I’d just go on YouTube, watch some AC Milan clips and compilations, and I’d smile instantly. So you see the reason why I’ll live and die as an AC Milan fan.

🚨Thiago Mendes on he refused to shake Neymar Jr.’s hand before the Santos and Vasco da Gama’s match.
🗣️“People talk a lot about sportsmanship. In football the handshake before the game is tradition, not law. It’s a gesture that only works when there’s mutual respect. When that respect is gone, forcing the moment becomes theatre.
In 2020 I made a mistake. I went in hard, I got sent off, I apologised publicly the same night. My family received death threats for months because of that one tackle. I lived with that. I never ran from it.
I didn’t intentionally try to injure him. I was doing my job as a midfielder in a competitive match. Football is a contact sport. If a player doesn’t want to be touched, maybe he should choose a different game. Wanting everyone to play soft around you just because your name is Neymar is not how this sport works. That attitude is one of the reasons I didn’t feel the need to shake his hand.
What I don’t accept is someone who still uses that moment six years later to call me an ‘idiot’ in front of cameras, then walks up expecting a friendly handshake like nothing was said. You can’t publicly disrespect someone and then demand the full ceremonial treatment.
I compete hard. I accept the consequences of my actions. I just refuse to pretend everything is fine for the cameras when it isn’t. That’s my standard. Some people will call it a lack of sportsmanship. I call it consistency.”
Some players are treated like untouchable kings. The rest of us are just supposed to accept whatever they say. I’m not built like that. I’m 34 years old, I’ve been through a lot in this game, and I still wake up every day knowing who I am.
If that bothers people, good. At least now everyone knows where I stand.”
