Baringo resident Morwess Cheleiwo who criticized President William Ruto's government and called for an end to the banditry problem in the region has been arrested by the DCI.

Cheleiwo spoke to the media on Wednesday, November 1, and accused the Kenya Kwanza government of neglecting the security situation in Baringo.

In his passionate speech, he urged security forces to take action against bandits who have been terrorizing residents and displacing them from their homes.

Chaleiwo was picked up by DCI officers on Saturday, November 4, and taken away for questioning.

The detectives did not disclose the reason for his arrest, but sources suggest he is possibly being investigated for incitement and hate speech.

Chaleiwo’s family and friends have condemned his arrest and demanded his release, saying he was only expressing his opinion and exercising his right to free speech.

They have questioned why the government is intimidating and harassing those who speak out against its failures.
