Here is my latest article on 2026 political dispensation in Somalia published in Aljazeera English: https://t.co/KcdDzPSiEC
“At this critical moment, the international community cannot afford to retreat into passivity. Proactive and principled engagement is essential to prevent a legitimacy collapse, safeguard the gains of the past 25 years, and protect the substantial investments made in peacebuilding and state-building in Somalia.”
A giant of world literature and indeed, one of the finest literary icons of the continent, has suddenly passed away. RIP Prof. @NgugiWaThiongo_. He was a champion of African languages and a pioneer in decolonizing the mind. One of my favorite authors and everyone’s.
On Monday, May 26, 2025 LPI celebrated its 40th birthday! We spent this monumental anniversary surrounded by valued friends and essential partners in Sweden like the Swedish Christian Council, Uppsala University Department of Peace and Conflict Research, the Swedish Mission Council and the Church of Sweden. We would like to toast to a wonderful 40 years of peacebuilding, and to every person that makes LPI's mission possible.
✨ When passionate peacebuilders from East and West Africa gather, something extraordinary unfolds! Our recent collaboration with WANEP was a testament to the power of human connection. We shared profound stories, delved into developing robust National Action Plans on Youth, Peace, and Security, and uncovered the deep wisdom of traditional conflict resolution. Each conversation was a bridge, each insight a spark of hope. Together, we're proving that true change begins when diverse voices listen and learn. 🕊️ #PeaceBuildingJourney #CollaborativeChange Dive into the full story: https://t.co/gsUs5ElImh

Ethiopia's aspirations and intentions regarding “a sea corridor” are not new. For Addis Ababa, "access to the sea" means a “navy base” or securing “sovereign access” to the coastline. This is different from a "commercial access" or the "use of ports." Ethiopia already has this and it can get access to more ports commercially from the five neighboring coastal states.
Countries neither grant “sovereign access to the sea” nor a “navy base” to hostile neighbors.
Somalia has repeatedly said: No to “navy base” and No to “sovereign access. It stated that it is ready to negotiate with Ethiopia only on a “commercial access” or “use of ports” based on international best practices.
So what are the two countries talking about in the upcoming discussions in Ankara?
