Yesterdays totally misleading Press Conference of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz is explained with numbers. It is like feeding an elephant 2 grains of rice. It is a tragic joke with the people of Punjab. There will be no decrease in the price of electricity. In fact, electricity prices are bound to increase further due to the faulty IPP agreements made by PPP and PMLn governments.
1. The Revenue Requirement of the Power Sector for FY 2024/25 is Rs 3768 Billion.
2. Punjab Government has purportedly announced to give Rs. 45 Billion (source is unclear) equivalent to 1 % that translates to just 4 days in the whole year.
3. The PMLn Form 47 government will spend more money in announcing and propagating this Rs 45 Billion through ads in the newspapers and electronic media. The money will go to their favourites, and commissions will accrue back to the Sharif family.
4. In summary - a total farce and a tragic 'topi drama' with the people of Punjab.
5. Nawaz Sharif should remember that it was his Finance Minister Miftah Islamil who announced the devaluation of the Rupee and declared that Ishque Dar's policy of artificially inflating the Rupee was incorrect. The nation paid a price of over $22 Billion for this faulty policy.
6. When the PMLn government finished its term in 2018, the foreign exchange reserves were in actual terms in the negative.
