The AHA/ACC/ADA/ASN have developed the first-ever guideline aimed at preventing & managing #CKM syndrome, an interconnected set of health conditions that significantly 📈 the risk of multiorgan complications & negative CV outcomes https://t.co/kmUw3woToN #JACC#ClinicalGuidelines
Published today, the first-ever clinical practice guideline on cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome from the American Heart Association and @ACCinTouch.
Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome staging is recommended for youths and adults to prevent CKM syndrome stage progression, to tailor therapy to absolute risk, to reduce cardiovascular events and loss of kidney function across the life course, and to promote CKM syndrome stage regression through lifestyle changes and weight loss.
The diagnosis of CKM syndrome stage requires assessment of metabolic health, kidney function, and cardiovascular risk factors, which enhances the identification of frequently unrecognized or asymptomatic CKM conditions.

Nobel Prize winning economist Kenneth Arrow wrote about "learning by doing" decades ago. He knew that productivity and expertise improve through experience.
The messy, repetitive works is often where you learn the patterns that eventually become judgment. Knowledge can be taught, but judgement is built through lived experience.
The first draft you rewrite. The customer call you listen to. The bug you fix and fix again. The factory floor you walk.
Small decisions you make every day teach you judgement. And, judgement is the thing everyone wants from senior people in the workplace. If we automate away every entry-level task without replacing the learning loop, we are removing a part of the process that creates experts.
The goal should be to use AI to accelerate learning, remove friction, and give people better tools to build expertise faster.

🔬 What are “peptides”?
Think of them as tiny building blocks your body uses to make proteins — helping to construct and repair different parts of your body.
They occur naturally in the body and play an important role in functions like hormones, healing, and communication between cells.
Some products made from these building blocks are being marketed for weight loss, muscle building, anti-ageing and performance enhancement. However, not all of these products are registered or tested for safety.
⚠️ Always be cautious and speak to a healthcare professional before using any of these products.

⚠️ Public Safety Alert: Unregistered Weight-Loss Medicines Seized ⚠️
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), working with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), has taken strong action against the unlawful manufacture and distribution of unregistered GLP-1 medicines used for weight loss.
An inspection at a facility in Pretoria uncovered serious violations, including:
👉️ Illegal large-scale manufacturing under the guise of “compounding”
👉️ Use of untested and illegally imported active ingredients
👉️ Poor sterile conditions and lack of quality controls
👉️ No systems in place to monitor adverse reactions
Several injectable products, including those containing semaglutide and tirzepatide, have been seized, and a full product recall has been initiated. Reports of adverse events, including hospitalisations, have also been noted.
🚫 The use, sale, or promotion of unregistered medicines is illegal and poses a serious risk to public health.
✅ Members of the public are advised to consult qualified healthcare professionals for safe and approved treatment options.

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority and the South African Pharmacy Council have intensified action against the unlawful manufacturing and distribution of unregistered GLP-1 and GIP medicines used for weight loss and diabetes treatment.
The crackdown follows a joint investigation and inspection conducted on 11 May 2026 at iDexis (Pty) Ltd in Silverton, Pretoria.
During the operation, authorities seized all injectable GLP-1/GIP products found at the facility, including products containing semaglutide, tirzepatide, and combination formulations.
According to SAHPRA and SAPC, the company was allegedly producing and supplying these medicines under the pretext of “compounding”, but outside the legal framework allowed under South African law.
Compounding is only permitted for preparing medicine for an individual patient based on a valid prescription and cannot be used for large-scale manufacturing, advertising, or commercial distribution.
Investigators uncovered serious regulatory and safety concerns at the facility.
Findings included the alleged illegal importation of semaglutide and tirzepatide active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), lack of analytical testing to confirm the medicines’ identity, potency and purity, poor sterile manufacturing conditions, contamination risks, inadequate equipment for aseptic preparation, and the absence of a proper HVAC system required for safe pharmaceutical production.
Authorities also found that the room used to manufacture the GLP-1/GIP products did not meet the standards required for sterile injectable medicines.
In addition, no pharmacovigilance system was in place to monitor or respond to adverse drug reactions.
SAHPRA said it has already received reports of adverse events, including hospitalisations, linked to the use of these products.
As part of the enforcement action, SAHPRA ordered the seizure of all finished products found on site and instructed the company to conduct a full recall of affected medicines distributed through pharmacies, healthcare providers, and other channels.
SAHPRA CEO Dr Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela warned that unlawful manufacturing, importation, advertising, and distribution of unregistered medicines pose a serious threat to public health and said the regulator would continue taking decisive action against entities violating the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
SAPC CEO Vincent Tlala said pharmacists and pharmacy support staff involved in the unlawful sale, compounding, or distribution of unregistered GLP-1 medicines could face severe disciplinary action, including possible removal from the professional register.
Members of the public have been urged to consult qualified healthcare professionals for advice on weight management and diabetes treatment, and to report any suspicious medicines or adverse reactions to SAHPRA.
