@pwanyama The counting starts from the date the President is sworn in, not from the election date.
The 5-year cycle is tied to the calendar date, not to swearing-in.
Article 142(1):
_“The President serves a five-year term from the date of being sworn in”

Because the term is 5 years _from swearing-in_, the “second Tuesday in August in every fifth year” election date is fixed to make sure the new President is sworn in before the old President’s term expires.

_“The President-elect shall be sworn in on the first Tuesday following”_ the declaration of results.
That’s usually 2 weeks after IEBC declares the results.
