Leave Islam Alone, Stop Spreading Falsehoods — League of Imams and Alfas Tells CAN, Traditional Worshippers
The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has expressed concern over what it described as the persistent spread of misinformation and unfounded allegations against Islam and Muslims in the region.
The League's position follows recent social media reports and commentaries linking the activities of kidnappers to demands for the implementation of Sharia law. The organisation noted that subsequent developments and testimonies have cast doubt on such claims, making it necessary for individuals and groups to exercise caution before making statements capable of inflaming religious sentiments.
The League recalled that Islam has historically faced numerous challenges and campaigns of misinformation, particularly during the colonial era when Christian missionary wages educational war against the Muslims. Despite this, Islam has continued to grow and contribute positively to the social, educational, and moral development of Yorubaland.
According to the League, Islam is a religion founded on peace, justice, mercy, and respect for human dignity. It stressed that attempts to associate criminal activities with Islamic teachings are both misleading and unfair to millions of law-abiding Muslims.
"We urge the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), traditional worshippers, and all stakeholders to refrain from spreading unverified claims or narratives capable of creating distrust among religious communities. Peaceful coexistence can only thrive where truth, fairness, and mutual respect prevail," the statement said.
The League further stated that no religion should seek the downfall of another in order to advance its own interests. Rather, religious communities should work together in promoting peace, understanding, and national unity.
It also called on members of the public, media organisations, and social media users to verify information before sharing it, especially on sensitive religious matters that could threaten social harmony.
The League reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dialogue, interfaith understanding, and the promotion of values that strengthen unity among the diverse peoples of Yorubaland and Nigeria at large.

Like I always say: History repeats itself.
Here is a video trending of a physically challenged man who consistently cleans the mosque. Despite his physical limitations, he moves around just to ensure the house of Allah is tidy and the slippers are arranged.
When I saw this, my mind immediately went to the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). There was a woman named Umm Mahjan whose sole dedication was sweeping and cleaning the Prophet’s mosque.
One night, she passed away. The companions washed her and buried her quietly. They thought her status was too small, or they simply did not want to disturb the Messenger of Allah in the middle of the night for someone they considered ordinary.
But the Prophet noticed her absence a few days later. He asked the companions about her. When they told him she had died and they had buried her, he was displeased and asked them why they did not inform him. He then commanded them to show him her grave, and he went there directly to pray the funeral prayer over her himself.
That is the immense honor Allah gives to those who serve His house. It is not about your status in society, and as this man in the video shows us, it is not even about your physical strength. It is purely about the state of your heart and your dedication.
This should be a massive wake-up call for those of us who are able-bodied. We need to do more with our bodies now that we have the strength. We must use our health, our full limbs, and our strength to serve the Deen and do good deeds.
Do not wait. A time is coming when this body will grow old, get sick, or be buried in the earth, and it will not be useful anymore. Use it for Allah while you still have control over it.
