My youngest of 4 kids was baptized into the @Ch_JesusChrist last weekend. I can't believe how fast time flies.
Jesus Christ set the example for all of us. He is the Way. The Truth and the Life.
@ComeUntoChrist
May she rest in eternal peace. God bless you and your family as you mourn her passing. May you find comfort in your faith, in the promise of a glorious resurrection, and in the assurance that death is not the end of our relationships with those we love.
One of the most beautiful truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that because of His infinite Atonement, the grave has no permanent victory. As scripture declares:
βThe grave must deliver up its captive bodies, and the bodies and the spirits of men will be restored one to the other; and it is by the power of the resurrection of the Holy One of Israel.β β 2 Nephi 9:12
And in Alma 40:23, we are promised:
βThe soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body ... and we shall be brought to stand before God.β
What a beautiful assurance that those we love are not lost to us forever. Through Jesus Christ, we have the hope of seeing them again, embracing them again, and rejoicing together in His presence.
May you find peace in knowing that our Savior suffered not only for our sins but also understands every sorrow, heartache, and grief we experience. As Alma 7:11β12 teaches, He took upon Himself our pains, sicknesses, and afflictions so that He would know perfectly how to comfort and succor His people.
Because He lives, she too shall live again. Because of Him, separation need not be eternal.
May the Lord surround your family with His love, strengthen your faith, and bring you the peace that only Jesus Christ can give.
In John 17, Jesus explains why His disciples should be one with each other: He is with the Father.
Clearly taught: One in Unit, not in nature/being. Pretty clear what Jesus was saying here.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
You evangelicals are always preaching that you follow the Bible, but you don't even believe what Jesus Christ Himself believed and taught about His relationship with His Father. "His God and our God". "His Father and our Father".
How do any of these scriptures make you think for a second that the creeds make a lick of sense? It's straight-up nonsense to think that the Father and Son are somehow the same substance/essence or whatever other nonsense word you want to fill in to come up with.
The fact is: The Creeds created God's nature under the Greek Lens. The traditions of man passed down to our day are why Trinitarians still believe this today.
But Scripture is plain and clear on this point. The Father is separate from the Son. But One in purpose and unity, not one in being.

The easy answer is. Our bodies in this life are a "tabernacle of clay". We return to the dust from whence we came. The resurrection is not taking old bones and making them new again. The resurrection is taking on a whole new perfected body, pure of any imperfections.
When we resurrect, we don't put on imperfection. We gain a perfected body free of disease, ailments, and free of any natural effects the body is prone to face in this natural world.

@RefinedPopulist No part of that scene includes any Mormon theology. Your rant is so blatantly false and incoherent that we are all dumber for having read it.

The @cofjctemples symbolizes Christ's infinite Atonement for all mankind, which is why I love the @Ch_JesusChrist. It makes salvation possible for all. Both the living and the dead. It shows God as loving and merciful, not a vengeful God who dooms all to hell for never knowing Him.
If you're a Protestant, agnostic, atheist, Catholic, or Orthodox and have ever asked the question, "Why would God send the vast majority of all mankind that He created to an eternal hell and torment for not being born in the right century or in the right part of the world and never knowing or believing in Jesus?"
He won't. In this life or beyond the veil of this life, God's promises to scattered Israel in the Bible are possible. All of God's children will be gathered. Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Muslim- all will have the opportunity in this life or in the hereafter to hear and accept the fullness of Christ's eternal gospel. This is God's love. That all mankind can be saved in and through His merciful Atonement of His Son for ALL.
All MANKIND, in this life or the next, will have the opportunity to receive all of God's blessings and be joint heirs with Christ.
IF YOU ASK ME, THIS IS THE GOOD NEWS OF CHRIST. THIS LIFE IS NOT THE END. This does not contradict Scripture; it fulfills it.

Both sides of my family were either Protestant or from the Church of England. Both sides were devout in their beliefs until their deep study of the Bible revealed the missing pieces of what the Primitive church of Jesus Christ looked like. With a foundation of Prophets and Apostles, and Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.
Thank God above for restoring His Gospel and His Church, for calling prophets and apostles, and for revealing more of His Word.
The Church of Jesus Christ is the Lord's Church on earth.
If your church doesn't practice any of the following points of doctrine, then you are not following the same Church of Christ as found in the Bible.
Does your church of Mike or Joe or Pat or whoever your pastor is practice any of these as taught in the Bible? If not, why? And why doesn't your church carry the name of Jesus Christ if it's His? And why is it not led by Prophets and apostles, as it says in Ephesians, if it's His?
Signs of the True Church
(See Hebrews 13:8)
1. Must teach that salvation requires more than just believing in Jesus Christ: Mark 16:15β16, Matthew 3:13β15, James 2:17β19 (Devils believe too; are they saved?)
2. Must baptize by immersion: (The Greek word for baptism means to submerge totally.) Matthew 3:13β16, John 3:23
3. The Church must be organized by Christ and have a foundation of Apostles and Prophets: Ephesians 2:19β20, Ephesians 4:11β14, Acts 1:15β26 (Judas is replaced)
4. Must claim Divine authority and officers must be called of God: Hebrews 5:4β10 (see Exodus 40:13β16, Numbers 27:23, Exodus 28:1), Luke 6:13, John 15:16, 1 Timothy 4:14, Acts 6:5β8, Acts 13:2β3
5. Must bestow the Holy Ghost by laying on of hands: Acts 8:14β19
6. Must practice Divine healing by laying on of hands: Mark 3:1β15, Mark 16:17β18, Mark 6:4β6, Mark 8:22β26, Luke 13:11β13, Acts 28:8
7. Must have no paid ministry: Matthew 10:7β8, Isaiah 45:13, 1 Peter 5:2, Acts 20:34, 1 Corinthians 4:12, 1 Corinthians 9:18, 2 Thessalonians 3:6β10, John 10:11β13
8. Must claim revelation from God to Prophets: Amos 3:7
9. Must be a restored Church: Daniel 2:44, Acts 3:19β21, Revelation 14:6β7, Ephesians 1:10
10. Must be a temple-building Church: 2 Samuel 7:4β6, Zechariah 6:12β13, Malachi 3:1, Matthew 21:12β13, Acts 2:46β47
11. Must practice baptism for the dead: 1 Corinthians 15:29
12. Must teach that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are two separate and distinct individuals: Matthew 3:15β17 (Did Christ throw his voice?), Hebrews 5:8β10, Acts 7:55β56, Matthew 26:36β42 (Did Christ pray to himself?), 1 Peter 3:22, 1 John 5:7 (The Greek for the word "one" means one in purpose, not body. See also John 17:21β23)
13. Must have the Gifts of the Spirit: Mark 16:17β18, 1 Corinthians 12:4β11, Matthew 7:20
14. Must be a missionary Church: Matthew 24:14, Matthew 28:19β20, Mark 3:14, Luke 10:1β2, Romans 10:13β15
People LOVE to say Latter-day Saints are "just like Muslims" because we both have a prophet who got visited by an angel.
Ok. Let's actually line it up. ALL of it. Not just the one trait that sounds scary.
And let's use the one church every Christian agrees is the standard: the Church Jesus Christ organized in the New Testament.
What did THAT church have?
Apostles AND prophets. Ephesians 2:20: "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone."
Living prophets. Acts 11:27: "in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch."
Ongoing revelation. Ephesians 3:5 says it was "now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit." They were still WRITING scripture.
Twelve apostles, and when one was gone they filled the seat. Matthias "was numbered with the eleven apostles" (Acts 1:26).
Baptism to enter the Church. Acts 2:38: "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins." And Acts 2:41 says those who received the word "were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."
Men called by revelation and the laying on of hands. Acts 13:2-3: "the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul... and laid their hands on them."
And Paul says those offices were given "Till we all come in the unity of the faith" (Ephesians 4:13). Are we there yet? Not even close.
Now look at what Islam teaches. The canon is closed. The last prophet already came. No more apostles. No more revelation. All you've got is old books.
Sound familiar?
That's exactly what most of modern Christianity teaches. Heavens closed. No prophets. No apostles. Nothing new from God.
So line them up.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints checks 8 of 8 boxes with the New Testament Church. Only 1 of 8 with Islam.
Modern Christianity checks 2 of 8 with the New Testament Church: Jesus is the Son of God, and He was crucified and rose again. That's huge, and we share it and celebrate it together. But it checks 6 of 8 with Islam. And 5 of those 6 are the SAME idea: God stopped talking.
The one thing we share with Islam, an angel bringing scripture? Every Christian shares that too. Revelation 1:1: God "sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John." That's not Islamic. That's BIBLICAL.
So who's really "just like Muslims"? It isn't the church with living prophets and apostles. It's the one that says the heavens are CLOSED.
That's cherry picking. Grab the one trait that sounds foreign, ignore everything else, call it a match. Run the full comparison by your OWN standard and it flips.
I'm not attacking my Christian friends, or Muslims. I'm asking a fair question. If the New Testament Church had apostles, prophets and revelation, why would Christ's Church today have LESS?
Amos 3:7: "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."
He still does.
Evangelical: The Book of Mormon preaches a different gospel!
Latter-day Saint: Different from what?
Evangelical: The gospel Paul preached! Galatians 1:8 says even if an angel preaches another gospel, let him be accursed!
LDS: Okay. What gospel did Paul preach?
Evangelical: Salvation through Jesus Christ!
LDS: Wonderful! We believe that too.
Evangelical: No, you believe in a DIFFERENT Jesus!
LDS: Was Paul's Jesus crucified for our sins?
Evangelical: Yes.
LDS: Buried and resurrected on the third day?
Evangelical: Of course!
LDS: That's exactly what the Book of Mormon teaches. See 3 Nephi 27 and 2 Nephi 2.
Evangelical: But you believe in becoming gods!
LDS: Is that what Paul was talking about in Galatians 1?
Evangelical: No, but that's a false doctrine!
LDS: So now we're discussing a doctrine you disagree with rather than the gospel Paul identified?
Evangelical: The gospel includes correct doctrine!
LDS: All correct doctrine?
Evangelical: Essential doctrine!
LDS: Who determines which doctrines are essential?
Evangelical: The Bible!
LDS: Excellent. Where does the Bible list the doctrines that must be believed to avoid preaching "another gospel"?
Evangelical: You're twisting Scripture!
LDS: I'm literally asking you to explain it.
Evangelical: Joseph Smith was visited by an angel!
LDS: And we're back to the angel.
Evangelical: GALATIANS 1:8!
LDS: Yes. We've read it. Now can we read 1 Corinthians 15:1β4?
Take the mote out of your own eye and unmask that for what it really is.
It's always interesting to me that the "professed Christians" are the ones who have taken such issue with the Chosen, which has been, for the most part, biblically sound.
All you're telling me is, first, you're ignorant. And secondly, you're uneducated in biblical scholarship.
Nope, sorry, the scriptures are very clear that there was indeed a great apostasy with the loss of priesthood authority following the death of Christ and His original apostles.
And although Christianity survived, it no longer has apostolic authority for continuing revelation, and various false doctrines crept in, including infant baptism and the practice of indulgences, among others.
@CapitolPoo I used to camp under the stars growing up in the high uintas and down at Lake Powell, and it was incredible, but it didn't quite look like this.
