this is how i know u ppl are REFUSING to be honest about s3. this is literally what happened. there is a DIRECT PARALLEL of gabriella forcing lestat to see the young girls burn and lestat forcing claudia to watch charlie burn. everything u want has literally happened in s3.
lestat’s pained grimace when his throat is cut and the way their pinkies were still resting next to each other and they couldn’t even communicate bc they don’t have the mind gift but they must’ve been so scared…. daniel and armand deserve a fate worse than hell
claudia told her at midnight she had to take five dozen cupcakes for the bake sale at her school tomorrow, she just got done fighting with louis after he suggested to just go out & buy the cupcakes & when she finally got done baking she discovered claudia ate all the sprinkles
It's giving pissed and overstimulated Lestat looking for an Uber after the funniest ever Louis and Claudia killed the driver who was supposed to bring them home before the damn sunrise
I think Muse Louis’ reaction is what tells the story. He did his job as a Muse. PERIOD. His tiny, satisfied “frown” and tap on the - whatever he was leaning against - and the way he walked out of the room. Even as a Muse, Louis is good at running things. Every other Muse is a struggle. But the way he gets up off the couch when Lestat opens his arms wide to invite him into the booth??? He’s USED to being Lestat’s long-time Muse.
On the contrary, I think he’s had time to work through the baggage that song is about for the most part and doesn’t hold as much resentment toward Louis as the song might lead someone to believe so he didn’t really need to do it over and over. Whereas with Big Boss (and this is just my interpretation), the section he keeps not getting right is the “gets to decide who dies and who stays alive,” and with the muse in question being Nicki…… well, THAT pain is one he definitely hasn’t worked through and arguably keeps trying to shove deeper down and avoid, so…..
Since the Drop Discourse™️ is back for the umpteenth time, one thing that’s perhaps not mentioned enough is Lestat’s attempts to deescalate the fight even in the midst of being mocked & beaten. He’s often (mis)characterized as a carelessly violent, explosive & callous being when we’ve repeatedly seen that he demonstrates empathy & insight into his behaviors. The version we’ve seen of him in the show is also arguably less impulsive than he appears in the books.
Lestat is so often characterized as the sole aggressor that his actual intent is also overlooked - he didn’t plan to hurt Louis to the extent of the drop. He tried to prevent it by communicating warnings with Louis because he initially didn’t want to hurt him. Lestat regrets the drop so deeply, in part, because he had no premeditated intent to harm Louis, but still did.
A pillar of his internalized shame is that he knows he has the capacity to cause such deep harm to those he loves, for reasons both voluntarily (“I couldn’t force him to love me, and so I broke him. What is worse than that? Crushing what you cannot own.”) and involuntary (the rage inherited from Akasha’s blood).
Lestat & Louis both hurt each other during the fight. Louis escalated it. Lestat dropped him. Louis slit Lestat’s throat & refused to burn him. Louis acknowledged the genuine nature of Lestat’s apology when recalling the trial & Lestat took full accountability for his actions while still acknowledging that a part of it was outside of his control. Lestat & Louis have moved past it. The tiring (frankly, boring) cyclical arguments about objective fact get us no closer to actually understanding these characters.
We could argue all day (and do, often) about who was more culpable. But it’s somewhat pointless given that we’re applying human morality principles to non-human beings, while simultaneously failing to recognize much of the depth & agency (& lack thereof, in some situations) in each character’s motivations, actions & their resulting outcomes.
