imo It Depends. you can read something and not absorb the prose. prose is literally the most fundamental part of making your writing...good, for lack of a better way to put it. you have to go into the book w/ a different mindset when you read it to improve your own writing

I'm really tired of empathy being used as some sort of necessary trait to have to be a good person, especially since lack of empathy is usually a symptom of some sort of condition. You do not need empathy to be a good person. Your actions matter more than your thoughts

i think people need to be more unabashed about their characters, because a lot of them are so afraid of doing anything that may seem mary sue-ish that they make "regular person" ocs they’re lowkey insecure about, and then start harboring resentment towards people who don‘t.
