Every new AI conversation begins the same way: upload a PDF, a transcript or a folder of notes. The model reads everything, answers your question and then forgets it all when the chat ends

The next day, you upload the same files again. Same tokens. Same cost. There's still a chance it will miss the one detail that matters

That’s not memory. It's an expensive intern re-reading the drive every morning

Andrej Karpathy proposed a different approach: treat raw documents as source code. Let AI compile them into a maintained wiki once. The raw files would stay untouched. The wiki then becomes the layer that the AI actually works from

There are four folders. Nothing exotic:

> Raw original PDFs and transcripts, never modified
> Wiki AI-maintained pages, one concept per file
> Indexes a map showing the AI where information actually lives
> Instructions the rules for how it reads, writes and cites

A 30-page PDF is no longer considered a single document. Instead, it becomes separate atomic pages, each of which is linked, sourced and reusable

Most systems handle contradictions incorrectly. A new article says 256K of context. An old note says 128K. A lazy system simply overwrites the number. A reliable system, however, would record the discrepancy, date both sources and flag the information as unverified, rather than pretending to be certain

The whole process is run by four prompts:

➤ Set up the structure once
➤ Ingest a new source extract concepts, check duplicates, flag conflicts
➤ Ask a question read the index first, pull only the relevant pages
➤ Run a weekly audit check for duplicate pages, broken links and stale entries
