Over the next yr, I'll be sharing practical insights on AI software, productivity, and digital tools for African professionals and businesses as I build African AI Scholar.
If u're interested in using AI to work smarter-not just following the latest hype-you're in the right place
worth using.
That's why I'm launching The African AI Weekly—a weekly editorial for African professionals and organisations who want practical, independent guidance on AI software.
First issue drops this month. What's the biggest challenge you face when choosing AI software?
Over the past few weeks I've been quietly building something.
I realised that most professionals don't struggle to find AI tools.
They struggle to know which ones are actually
The most useful political statement I have ever read was this simple quote from Chairman Mao: "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun".
Everything else is just a series of fantasies and illusions that people sell themselves so they can sleep well at night. Whatever style of government you pretend to have, it is always underwritten by men with guns, and its stability always ultimately comes down to what the men with guns choose to do.
Your "democracy" is a children's fairy tale you tell yourself to make the world more palatable - it is men with guns that enforce and implement decisions, and it is men with guns that will escort you into a police car, a courtroom or a prison if you choose not to obey whatever instruction you have received.
Your "theocracy" is a lie because God has no power to make you do anything without the men with guns making you carry out his will. Mecca and Jerusalem are the 2 allegedly holiest in the world, and they're both filled with men with guns, purportedly carrying out the will of God.
Every type of human society is held together by men with guns. A good society is one where the interests of the men with guns align with those of the people without guns, and a bad society is one where the men with guns live parasitically off the people without guns.
ALL societies are dictatorships of men who control the guns. Some just include a whole lot of extra steps to obfuscate that basic fact. I personally prefer the societies where the men with the guns do not hide their control and their interests align with those who do not have guns.
Growing up is realising that "democracy" is like Santa Claus. It's a story told for 5 year-olds to feel involved in the world's decision making. You didn't put Tinubu, Trump or Macron in power with your "vote" you fucking peasant.
I have come to realize that I am not particularly good at acknowledging my emotions. I do not suppress them so much as I simply fail to notice them. Whether that is healthy or unhealthy on a personal level, I genuinely could not tell you. Nor, if I am being honest, do I care all that much. It has never seemed to affect the way I move through life. What I have realized, however, is that it becomes a problem the moment another person enters the equation, especially in the context of a relationship.
I have never paid much attention to how I feel. My low days rarely alter the course of my life, and neither do my high ones. I wake up, do what needs to be done and carry on. Because that is how I relate to myself, I unconsciously expect others to do the same. So when a woman tells me she feels hurt, neglected or overwhelmed, I often struggle to understand what she is asking of me. If she continues trying to explain it, I basically become a statue, almost like I don’t know what to do. Frankly, I don’t. I genuinely cannot seem to grasp the language she is speaking. My inability to understand it leaves me completely helpless, despite how much I care about her.
Looking back, I can think of more than a few beautiful relationships that slowly withered because of this. They did not end for lack of affection. They ended because, sooner or later, the people involved grew tired of trying to be understood by someone who did not know how to understand them. That realization sits heavily with me.
I would like to say I am a work in progress. Perhaps I am. But the truth is I do not even know what progress would look like here. I do not know how to feel in the way others seem to feel. Maybe it is a psychological flaw. Maybe it is simply how I learned to survive. Whatever it is, I suspect it is less something to be cured than something to be managed.
