On July 15, Ostium's price oracle received a batch of reports. Correctly formatted, correctly signed, signed by a key the system was configured to trust. The verifier checked them and accepted them, because that is what it was built to do.
The signer's credentials were no longer only in Ostium's hands.
The prices in those reports were false. The attacker opened and closed positions against them, over and over, and the vault paid out every time.
No cryptography failed here. The signature check passed because the signature was real. The contract had no way to ask the only question that mattered โ not whether an authorized signer produced this, but whether that signer should still be authorized.
A signature answers who. It has never answered whether.
Most oracle designs close that gap with process: rotate credentials, bound the deviation, add a second feed. All of it helps, and none of it removes the shape underneath โ a persistent authorized signer, which is a persistent target. A standing credential waits as long as you need it to.
CRVA's answer isn't a stricter check on the signature. It's not having a standing signer at all. Nodes prove eligibility with ZKP and Ring-VRF draws each epoch's set anonymously, so there's no permanent oracle key to steal and no fixed party to go after. Threshold MPC means no single node holds enough signing authority to produce an accepted report alone. And selection state stays sealed inside SGX2, so a machine's operator can't tell whether it's currently participating โ there's nobody to approach even after the draw.
It doesn't make a compromised machine impossible. It makes one machine no longer enough.

Bonding is one of the key mechanisms inside POTS Money. โ๏ธ
It is not the same as staking.
Bonding focuses on how assets enter the ecosystem through protocol-driven design.
Instead of relying only on short-term market demand, bonding creates a more structured path for ecosystem growth. ๐ฑ
Understanding bonding is part of understanding how IBS works.
