The Oilers’ replacement for Darnell Nurse is Ryan Shea. Fantastic penalty Killer who excels at retrievals and exits. I’m glad they got a puck mover, the Oilers are a better team when they push the pace. #LetsGoOilers
@GDionisios@TopTierPucks Last season Edm allowed 26.7 shots per game, the exact same value as the TBL. Carolina did allow the fewest per game at 24. That sub 3 shot differential isn’t nothing but your comment is exaggerated as hell bro.
@domluszczyszyn Edmonton had the most road games to start the season (16 of their first 24) and now with the way strength of teams played out, they have by far the toughest schedule to finish off the season. Sh17Luck
Mattias Ekholm, signed to a 3x$4M extension by EDM, is a veteran two-way puck-moving defenceman who has had great success as the stabilizing presence on the Oilers' top pairing. A calm and patient transition passer, struggled a bit coming off injury in the Final.
My model still loves Mattias Ekholm a great deal thanks to his strong resume. We'll see if he can bounce back after returning from injury, but as long as he can stay at a second-pair level this is a great deal.
Top comp: Ryan Suter, who did stay at that level.
The best player in the world sacrifices $12.6M over the next two seasons to (hopefully) finally win his first Stanley Cup. A truly unbelievable bargain.
Hearing that McDavid was on the phone with Mitch + Paul Marner last night where they convinced him to stay in Edmonton instead of going to Toronto. Very emotional conversation, apparently. 🧡💙
@JNGross@JFreshHockey It’s literally just counting and adding up “stuff” they do, the data isn’t wrong but the eyes can be deceiving. The video feed also missed a lot of off-puck stuff that you can’t see unless you’re there.
@FelixRenley@ryanwhitney6 Regular season doesn’t really matter, just get in. These teams are built for the playoffs, it’s undeniable! Look at the series wins they have combined over the past 3 years. The best teams win in the playoffs > regular season fluff.
