Working in finance is realizing that the job is often an escape from real life for a lot of people in the industry
The MDs and VPs with children who are staying in the office past 10 PM instead of spending time with their kids
The PE and HF portfolio managers who continue to stick around despite having a net worth that should have made them leave a decade ago
Some of them are there because they truly love the grind. Others because they are deeply unhappy with their personal lives and view the job as the only avenue where they have full control over the outcomes
The irony is that the unhappiness stems from all the sacrifices they made for this job in the first place, whether that is in their relationships or friendships
But the stockholm syndrome is real, and their careers are so core to their personality that it is impossible to leave behind
I just checked and @LifeAtLUMS average cost of a 4 year undergraduate program is average PKR 6M.
What is the top 25percentile salary of a fresh LUMS graduate? If it’s PKR 200K per month, then payback is 30 months.
If 50percentile salary is PKR 125K, then payback is 48 months.
Not a good ROI / payback for LUMS graduate.
Non sensical to join LUMS for a local job… only makes sense if you get a job in Dubai or Riyadh!
Higher Education cost-benefit is getting ugly.
so market is up today but under S&P 500, 300 names are negative and 8/11 sectors are negative.
In the next correction (maybe happens after 5 years who knows), index will probably take a bigger hit and many investors will come out unscratched.
Will this not impact the moat of rail networks like $V and $MA - right not its focused on SWIFT. not saying it can fully replace the networks but can impact their normalized growth alogritham, no ?

"Anthropic calling for top artificial intelligence labs to weigh slowing the pace of development, suggesting that AI systems are advancing rapidly that they may be able to improve themselves without human intervention in ways that could pose significant societal risks." - WSJ
@DimitryNakhla Normalized topline likely ~6–7% and ~10% EPS from margin expansion. Some segments may be overearning, and weakness in MI could spill over into other segments (MI is distrbution network for other segments).
That said, risk/reward is attractive. Martina Cheung is solid too.(2/2)
@DimitryNakhla I recently took position in SPGI after following it for years. However, multiple can compress more. Many thought it would rarely trade above a 4.5% FCF yield, yet here we are. Back in 2015, the stock traded at lower multiples. (1/2)
He is wrong, top 1% of salaried income is paying 40%, not those that are generating income and wealth through capital gains.
Many in top are not paying their share of taxes while almost all at the bottom are paying full taxes.
Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.
Quality factor which has really underperformed can now provide hedge against market downturn.
I sense that the likes of $V were a source of funding for AI trades and will benefit from rotation away from it.
@Eyal__Weiss@ReneSellmann I understand their desire to share some profitability with customers but why do it when you are winning market share even in this competitive market.
I worry more about the risk from stablecoin or competition from Visa.
@ar75ne@PronkDaniel agreed. my two cents, Martina is a solid executer; workspace is a difficult business but her idea of chief client office has worked well so far. Also, shareholder base may need to get changed before the stock works again.
@PronkDaniel@ar75ne You can replicate the product, but SPGI won’t sit idle — they’ll keep improving it. Bigger question is valuation: does the current growth profile justify these multiples/FCF yield, or is this just the new normal? And Mobility spin-off, do you even want to own Mobility?
My daughter studied months for her sociology A level. She went and gave a great paper today. She was so happy!
After the paper we find out paper had been leaked. Clearly someone is making money and one smart guy can sort this. Whoever this exam mafia is needs to destroyed.
Keep in mind we send over a hundred million dollars in O & A level fees to UK every year. So this responsibility is on them. Because this counts as valuable exports for UK I hope @JaneMarriottUK will step in figure this out.
Cat is out of the bag finally.
Trump does not want the Straits of Hormuz opened. Rather he wants the world to buy oil from America.
This is diabolical.
