She became famous as Catwoman but her most important role has always been that of mother.
At 92 years old Julie Newmar continues to care for her 45 year old son John who has Down syndrome and later lost his hearing due to meningitis.
John arrived as a miracle child in 1981 after Julie experienced three miscarriages. Medical professionals at the time recommended institutional care but she decided on a different approach.
She chose love.
He is the light of my life she has said. I never for one second regretted keeping him with me.
Throughout the years John has developed and displayed his own artwork. Julie has remained his strongest advocate protector and unwavering source of affection. For many she will forever be remembered as the legendary Catwoman. For John however she holds an even more special place. She is simply Mom.
