@RAILMag What would the connection do for service? Would the chief/flyer head to the overland station and then back out to continue on? Does Amtrak do that elsewhere? Or would they always serve the different stations but the overland could then connect south of the river towards Lawrence?
This child was killed by a driver, but he was also killed by a DOT and US transportation system that has set the mobility, safety and lives of anyone outside of car to zero. US roads are deadly by default. Deadly by design. Deadly by intent. This road is *known to be dangerous.*
@GreatDenTransit @JCRiecke Indeed it is a bit sad. I didn't realize how fancy the Great Overland Station is either. Even the North Lawrence Station is nicer than the existing one so maybe just using UP would be the way to go if the SW Chief could somehow make it to that there.
@GreatDenTransit @JCRiecke I'd think using the existing station the SW Chief uses would be best (but again I have no idea about the turnaround issue) especially so it can use the existing station in Lawrence (assuming it'd stop there). Regardless, I'd definitely ride that train to visit family!
@GreatDenTransit @JCRiecke Assuming they'd stop in Topeka, how do you imagine they'd route it through? Tracks from the West are on the north side of river and would seemingly need to reverse direction somehow even with new trackage to continue east to KC. Maybe it's no big deal, but I've wondered this.
@PatrickSan_@NoSquish Are there any ideas on what would be done with the extra space? The current bus only comes once an hour at peak, and as far as I can tell, the plan is for Powers Ave to be the bicycle route.
