After Obasanjo's electoral coup of 2003 where SW Governors AD Governors were replaced except for Lagos. AD had only 6 senators. From then on there was regrouping led by Alliance for Democracy stalwarts and the only surviving AD Governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As at then nobody would even look at him like he would even make it to the Presidency. Note that even then things were going awry in the country. Insecurity was very much around but definitely not on the scale it is now. Party people of AD decided to rebrand and make themselves more appealing to the Nigerian people so they morphed/created the ACN that later became the APC you love to hate.
Politically concessions were made, ambitions were sidelined while the second best political party in the country began capturing federal and state seats. Slowly but surely. People from even the ruling party were invited and cajoled into APC until the direction of the tide was obvious. APC could not be ignored. Aggrieved members of PDP found a viable alternative from North to South in APC.
Money was thrown at building the party from the grassroots up to the Federal. Party adopted simple and catchy slogans and logo. APCβ¦Change!!!! Logo was a broom! All these was happening and PDP were very much in power and strong. Seemed like Nigeria would be a one party state. Before Buhari, APC fielded Ribadu. To me that felt like a concession tbh. A stop-gap approach to gain power.
The main opportunity then came when Buhari and his ANPP/CPC mates joined. He's always had his 11 million votes but never winning. APC wanted to go beyond being a regional party to a National one. A combination of a popular Northern powerhouse and potent political party. The game was done. The game of power is funny. The choices that were made were not necessarily the best for Nigeria but they were a means to an end.
As for PDP, they would brag that the party would rule for 100 years. Stomach infrastructure politics was entrenched under them while they wasted National resources for self-gain. Those of us old enough know. Some of us were even in the whole mix observing and learning politics the Nigerian way. Nothing new under the sun βοΈ .
I narrated all of that to day this, today's youths want the presidency while forgetting positions like legislative arm and judicial arm are just as important in a Republic. You aim for the top and forget the building needs a strong foundation to stand. If your βMessiahβ wins, how stable would he be to even deliver the little he can? No planning, no patience, no organization, no politics in the effective manner, just blind following of an inconsistent leader as if it were a curse.
We can blame our leaders all we want but even as youths most of us don't even know the solution beyond armchair politics, tribalism, bias, vituperations, and blame games. Give or take this conversations has been rife on social media since 2020 but nobody knows what they are doing. Una mind go dey o.
Long story short, you can wail, abuse, gaslight, spread misinformation online, cut of your friends for their political choices but the truth remains. YOU ARE NOT READY FOR WHAT YOU THINK YOU WANT! #NigeriaWillBeGreat
Umahi: Peter Obi Started The Criticism, Not Me
We all determine our own destinies. I did not criticise Peter Obi; he started the confrontation by coming to the construction site where I was working and publicly castigating me. I consider that very unfair. I only said that when you continually condemn others, you bring judgment upon yourself. He has also failed to caution his followers. One of them reportedly said that even if Jesus contested in an election, Peter Obi would win. That is an affront to our faith, and I expected Peter Obi to speak out against such a statement.
David Umahi, Nigeria's Minister of Works
OSSOFF: The crook president is coming back to Georgia today to wallow in his failure and disgrace. To remind Georgians of his failure as commander in chiefβ¦
OBAMA: That just feels a little bit differentβ¦ where people are so sick and tired of being sick and tired. After 2 years of chaos. and cruelty. and corruption. and incompetenceβyou get a chance to say enough's enough.
OBAMA: Iran didn't have nuclear weapons because I had put a deal in place and I didn't have to fire a missile to do it. I just had to engage in diplomacy.
OBAMA: I got criticized for tightening up enforcement at the border. But I don't recall anybody campaigning on sending masked agents running through our streets. Don't recall anybody talking about law abiding citizens being arrested, detained, or shot.
I donβt know how Ghana have been able to keep up the lie that they enjoy 24 hours electricity. Egbeda get light pass most parts of Ghana.
They keep trolling Nigeria for what they regularly experience.
Muslims, let's stop lying to ourselves.
Most Muslim countries are not tolerant of other religions.
In Saudi Arabia, a Christian can't build a single church.
In Pakistan, mobs burned more than 20 churches in one day in Jaranwala over a blasphemy rumour.
In Iran, Baha'is are barred from university just for what they believe.
Meanwhile the UK has nearly 2,000 mosques, and nobody is burning them down.
We demand tolerance everywhere we're the minority.
Then refuse to give it everywhere we're the majority.
That's not faith. That's hypocrisy.
Artist- Macy Gray
Song- Sweet Baby
I miss that late 90βs/early 2000βs neo soul-R&B sound, Macy Gray, India Arie, musiq soulchild, Jill Scott, sooooo many more.
But Macy Gray was just different, the soul, blues, raspy voice- just special.
