Lovely late afternoon at Knock Shrine County Mayo for the ‘All Ireland Rosary Rally’. I can’t accurately estimate the crowd but it was thousands and from all 32 counties of Ireland North and South. Basilica was full and large numbers outside (great weather so that was OK). Mass (main celebrant was Bishop Cullinan of Waterford) and Exposition at the end of the day. Closing hymn (vid) was ‘Golden Rose, Queen of Ireland’ and fair play to her, Dame Dana Rosemary Scallon was there to lead in the singing of it.
It struck me that there is no political party in Ireland that could mobilise this many to turn out with their friends and family for them. Rumours of the Catholic Church’s demise in Ireland are premature.
Another notable presence, a lot of families of African, Indian, and Philippines roots, great to see.

Some people have asked me how I’m planning to vote in the forthcoming EU elections. I will vote for a pro-life candidate, one that has a track record and not just a box ticker. For example @Toibin1, who is the real deal. There’s a big pro-life vote in Ireland, if it wants to mobilise. Some of the so called ‘populists’ focusing on asylum seekers etc. are not pro-life or at least have no pre-election record of being pro-life. Buyer beware, life related votes come before the European Parliament more often than one might think, you don’t want find your number one choice voting with the other guys when it comes to it. It’s happened too many times before. Remember even Simon Harris used the help of the pro-life vote and even canvass teams by making false promises in order to win his seat. Don’t get duped, check their record.
