How to assess a child as a coach:
How eager the child is while learning in class
Does the child pay attention to the class or is more interested in the comings and goings around?
Does the child observe the basic rules of the class or rebel often?
While the class is in progress, how attentive the child is to what is being taught?
Energy level in the class: yawning, attentive, enthusiastic, withdrawn, reserved, etc
Ignoring homework or enthusiastically trying to complete homework
Asking a lot of questions, having many doubts or not
Does the child show improvement in attitude to the game, and in technical aspects in the medium run
Has an eye for tactics, ability to concentrate and calculate
Getting emotional about everything, especially to losses and mistakes
Ability to take in criticism
Do they work at home on their own or need a lot of pushing from behind?
Most kids like playing chess, but only a few like to prepare and learn
