NEW: Jacksonville officer talks man off Dames Point Bridge in emotional bodycam video
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded to the Dames Point Bridge after a man climbed on top and threatened to jump.
Officer Antonio Richardson spoke directly to the man with compassion, telling him, “Whatever you’re going through, you can get through it.”
The man eventually took Officer Richardson’s hand and stepped down safely from the bridge.
The department later posted the video with the message: “The cycle of hurt has got to stop.”
The man was not charged.

Today we honor the legacy of Jackie Robinson, who debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers OTD in 1947.
We celebrate his courage and determination, his brilliance on the baseball diamond, and his grace and dignity beyond the playing field.
Jackie’s influence has spanned the generations. From the legends who followed, to the current greats, and the stars of tomorrow. We are all grateful for all he gave to our game. #Jackie42
Years ago, I was on the road that ultimately led to the destruction of myself and my family.
There is an alternate reality where I am sitting alone in an apartment drinking right now while some other man raises my sons. I don’t feel like I’m being hyperbolic.
Life had broken me in real ways and I didn’t know how to fix it. And I tried *everything* modern society had to offer.
I still remember the day I broke down. Just rock bottom. Literally on my knees, finally humbled enough to pray again.
Though I didn’t realize it at the time, that one moment would be the catalyst for one of the greatest comeback stories.
Not because I did anything. I failed to do anything on my own.
But because God knew that the only way to get me to look up at Him was to put me on my back.
Jesus saved my life, man. He changed the entire trajectory of my bloodline.
My oldest son is baptized and on fire for the Lord. My youngest is on the way. They live in a home where they see their mom and dad love each other.
All because Jesus left the 99 to come find the one lost prodigal.
If you feel like you’re at rock bottom, it might be because that’s exactly where God needs you to be before He works a miracle in your life.
Just look up.
One of the best parts of the Masters golf tournament: the no phone rule.
It’s awesome to see so many people locked in and sharing an experience with full presence.
As I write in The Way of Excellence: “Excellence requires intimacy—minimizing distractions and getting as close as possible to your pursuit. It is a powerful antidote to modern feelings of disconnection, dissociation, and numbness.”
I have no doubt a big part of the aura at the Masters is its intimacy. This would be impossible if everyone had their phones.
There’s much to learn from this, and not just for golf.
