Note to my fellow creatives,
Trust yourself. So many things rob you of the ability to trust yourself. Constant rejections eventually become thieves. Imposter syndrome is nothing more than a seductive lie. Your ideas are as great as you once thought they were. Trust yourself.
On a lighter note, they say the secret to staying young is good sex, never heard anyone say it was good sex with just one person. Embrace these break ups lol
So when it’s my birthday? It’s a damn holiday. When I accomplish anything? It’s a party. It’s a reason to spoil me. When I wake up? That’s worthy of a treat. Because who else is going to do it? Who else will make someone like me feel seen?
Yeah. Exactly.
Black women are given the crumbs of crumbs. But we’re expected to be so much. & it doesn’t end. Some days I just get so overwhelmed trying to exist, but there’s one thing I can count on—my own ability to build the life I want down to every inch, every fucking moment, every piece.
Why I spoil myself as a black woman:
I thought I would get to an age & folks would just adorn me. Romantically. Platonically. Professionally. But that’s false. Everywhere I have to work. And defend myself. And fix things. And try to matter
So when I earn money? I repair myself.
I just needed to know there’s things I can do now that are meaningful to my existence that don’t require waiting on a thing. I want joy now. I want hope now. I want love now.
So yeah, I make as much space for my own self as I can. Bc what else is there?
Once I learned so much of womanhood is waiting? Waiting for a partner, waiting for a proposal, waiting for marriage, waiting for motherhood, waiting for a promotion, I just... got incredibly frustrated.
What/who am I beyond that? How do I take control of my life?
