Zimbabwe stands at a crossroads it has walked before, and those with eyes to see already know the destination.

General Constantino Chiwenga will be the next President of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of ZANU-PF.

This is not speculation. It is the trajectory of events already in motion, visible to anyone who has studied how power actually moves in this country not through communiqués and press statements, but through the quiet repositioning of loyalties within the party's structures.

Even within Mnangagwa's own inner circle, this reality is understood, even if it cannot yet be spoken aloud.

No faction, no cartel, no constitutional maneuver has proven capable of altering what the structures of this party and this military ultimately decide.

History does not repeat. It rhymes and we have heard this rhyme before.
Munhu wese kuna amai.

In the final days of the Mugabe era, the G40 faction gathered around Amai Grace Mugabe, believing proximity to State House and to the First Family was the surest path to succession.

They neutralised Lacoste-aligned officials one by one, believing themselves untouchable because they held the ear of the President.

We all remember how that ended not in triumph, but in the ignominy of November 2017, watching the very apparatus they mocked dismantle their ambitions in a matter of days.

Now we are witnessing the same tactic, deployed by the very man who once stood on the other side of that history.

The neutralisation of Lacoste stalwarts, the marginalisation of war veterans who fought for this country's liberation, the elevation of a "Zvigananda" cartel whose loyalty is to proximity and patronage rather than to the party's founding principles this is G40 in a new uniform.

Different faces, same fatal miscalculation.

Those who forget history are not condemned to repeat it. They are condemned to relive its ending.

What befell the G40 architects will befall the architects of this current arrangement.

The military does not forget who stood with the liberation struggle and who did not.

The structures that removed one president in 2017 in defence of the party's founding values remain intact, and they remain watchful.

Mnangagwa would do well to remember that he did not create the system that brought him to power he inherited it, and he serves at its pleasure, not the reverse.

A leader who turns that same system against the very comrades who installed him is not securing his legacy.

He is authoring its shameless end.
It pains me to say this, but the truth does not die.

Let me be blunt the reshuffling of ambassadorial postings currently underway is not diplomacy.

It is exile with a title. When officers and officials who owe their standing and their loyalty to General Constantino Chiwenga suddenly find themselves dispatched to Pretoria, Beijing, Abuja, or Brussels, we are not witnessing career advancement.

We are witnessing containment, dressed in a diplomat's suit.

This is not a new script. Any leader who fears a rival's base moves to hollow it out quietly, one posting at a time, so that no one can call it what it plainly is.

Strip away the protocol, the motorcades and the credentialing ceremonies, and what remains is simple arithmetic: distance a man's allies from the levers of power, and you convince yourself you have distanced the man himself.

Zimbabwe's political history is not short of this manoeuvre.

Reassignment has long served as the softer cousin of dismissal a way to remove a man from the room without the optics of a purge.

It allows the architects of the move to claim, with a straight face, that nothing political has occurred at all.

Only career progression. Only the ordinary rotation of service.
But those of us who have sat in command briefings recognise the pattern the moment we see it.

You do not send a rival's most capable lieutenants to embassies on three continents by coincidence.

You do it because you have counted heads, and you did not like the number you arrived at.
Loyalty Does Not Relocate

Here is where the strategists in State House have miscalculated. General Chiwenga's standing was not built in ministerial corridors or cemented by ambassadorial commissions.

It was built in the trenches of the liberation struggle, and it has been reinforced over decades within the command structures and institutions that remember precisely who carried this nation through its hardest hours.

That loyalty does not relocate with a diplomatic passport. You cannot post a man's history to an embassy.

You cannot transfer institutional memory the way you transfer personnel.

Whatever titles are handed out this week, the men being reassigned do not stop remembering who they served under, and the structures they leave behind do not forget either.

Those orchestrating this game of musical chairs should ask themselves a harder question than the one they have been asking.

Instead of calculating how many of General Chiwenga's allies can be scattered across foreign capitals, they might ask what has actually been solved by doing so.

The answer is very little. The underlying grievances driving Zimbabwe's succession debate the frustration with a patronage network some have taken to calling the Zvigananda Cartel, the unresolved question of who leads this country after Mnangagwa, the widening gap between the political elite and the citizens they claim to serve none of that is addressed by moving names on an organogram.

Scattering allies buys time. It does not buy resolution.Zimbabwe has seen this pattern before, in earlier chapters of its post-independence politics, and it has rarely ended the way the strategists managing it imagined it would.

Reassignment can delay a reckoning. It cannot cancel one. The longer that reckoning is postponed through reshuffles and reassignments rather than resolved through honest political dialogue, the sharper it tends to be when it finally arrives.

That is the lesson this current manoeuvre risks ignoring. Diplomacy is meant to project a nation's interests abroad.

It should not be repurposed as a tool for managing succession anxiety at home.

Zimbabweans deserve a governing establishment that resolves its internal contests openly, not one that exports its rivals and hopes the problem quietly disappears with them.

SUNGANO YEVANHU – UBUMBANO LOMPHAKATHI CONDEMNS THREATS AGAINST ITS SPOKESPERSON, JACOB NGARIVHUME

Sungano YeVanhu – Ubumbano Lomphakathi (The People's Coalition) strongly condemns the reported acts of intimidation and threats directed against our Spokesperson, Jacob Ngarivhume, following the vandalism of his residence with threatening and abusive messages allegedly written by Gunman travelling in a grey Toyota GD6.

Such acts represent a direct attack not only on Mr. Ngarivhume as an individual, but also on the constitutional rights of all Zimbabweans to freely express their views, associate peacefully and participate in public affairs without fear, intimidation or violence.

This incident does not stand in isolation. It follows a deeply troubling pattern of threats, harassment and intimidation directed at leaders and members of the Coalition and its constituent organisations. Our Convener, Rev. Kupa Mtata, previously received threatening messages and acts of intimidation. Other leaders, including Professor Lovemore Madhuku, Tendai Biti, and Jacob Ngarivhume, have also faced threats and intimidation in the course of exercising their constitutional rights.

We wish to make it abundantly clear that Sungano YeVanhu – Ubumbano Lomphakathi is a peaceful coalition committed to constitutional democracy, the rule of law and the sovereignty of the people. Our campaign seeks the peaceful restoration of constitutional order through lawful means, including the courts, civic engagement and national dialogue. We reject violence in all its forms.

No Zimbabwean should be threatened, intimidated or placed in fear because they hold or express constitutional views that differ from those of the Government or any political actor. Such conduct has no place in a democratic society founded upon respect for human dignity and the rule of law.

We therefore call upon the Zimbabwe Republic Police and all relevant law enforcement authorities to conduct a prompt, professional and impartial investigation into this matter, identify those responsible and ensure that they are held accountable in accordance with the law. Every citizen is entitled to equal protection under the Constitution, regardless of political opinion or affiliation.

We also call upon political leaders, churches, civil society, regional bodies and the international community to continue speaking out against political intimidation and to support the protection of constitutional rights and democratic freedoms in Zimbabwe.

Threats will not silence us.

Intimidation will not weaken our resolve.

Our commitment to restoring constitutional democracy remains peaceful, lawful and unwavering.

The Constitution Belongs to the People.

Let the People Decide.

Restore the Constitution.

As a servant of this Party and nation for many decades, I write to you today not as an outsider, but as one who has walked the corridors of our liberation struggle and witnessed the evolution of our revolutionary project.

It is from this position of experience and loyalty that I share these observations.

Having engaged with comrades across all ten provinces over recent months, a pattern has become evident one that speaks to the maturity and collective wisdom of our Party structures.

The feedback from Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Midlands, Bulawayo, and Harare reflects a consistent narrative.

The consultations conducted through proper Party channels have revealed the following Collective Wisdom:

All 10 provinces have demonstrated remarkable unity in identifying the qualities needed for the next phase of our national journey.

Leadership Credentials: There is broad recognition of the importance of liberation war credentials, combined with proven governance experience and unwavering loyalty to ZANU-PF ideals.

The name of General (Retired) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga has been consistently highlighted across all provincial reports as embodying the leadership qualities required at this critical juncture.

District structures have echoed provincial sentiments, indicating genuine alignment rather than imposed direction.

Having served alongside many of our liberation heroes, I recognise the weight of this moment.

The endorsements we are witnessing are not the product of factional manoeuvring, but rather the organic expression of Party members who understand the stakes before us.

General Chiwenga represents continuity, stability, and the revolutionary consciousness that has defined our movement since 1963.

To all Party structures, I offer the following counsel:

Maintain Discipline: Continue to operate within established Party protocols and avoid any actions that could be misinterpreted as factional.

Listen to the Grassroots: The voice of the membership is clear. We must respect the wisdom of our structures.

Preserve Unity: Our strength lies in our unity. Any leadership transition must strengthen, not weaken, our collective resolve.

Confidentiality: This matter requires the utmost discretion. Internal processes must remain internal.

ZANU-PF has always been guided by the principle of serving the people of Zimbabwe.

The current alignment across our provinces reflects the maturity of our consultation mechanisms and the genuine confidence of our membership in leadership that embodies our liberation values.

The direction is clear. The provinces have spoken. The Party must listen.
