@1984_nate Wow, it's all so clear now. Reformed theologians and Presbyterian missionaries have been pondering, arguing and praying over this verse but this dude on the internet just told me what it really means!
@realJennaEllis Not at all what is taught. We are awed and humbled by the fact that God chose ALL His sheep (including you and Dinesh) for salvation. There is no pride or elitism involved.
@jpclemens@Soteriology101 It sounds wrong to our human ears, but it's all over scripture. "I will have mercy on who I have mercy" and "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him".
@DineshDSouza Not at all but at least our doctrines are written down in the Westminster confessions and the Heidelberg Catechism, along with the many scripture verses that we base our interpretations on. Non-creedl l churches all have doctrine and interpretations too, they're just not written
@DrJackHughes Satan will obviously use half-truths to deceive and trouble us but that doesn't mean we throw out Biblical doctrine. Anyone seeking Christ had already had their heart softened and is among the elect. No one has ever reached out to Christ and had their hand slapped away.
@DineshDSouza UT Engineering is almost 60% F1 Student visas so I don't care if they enjoy football and we don't want them to assimilate, they just need to go home afterwards and not sneak in a transfer to H1B.
@neoavatara You obviously have no idea how many of them were citizens, why are you pretending you do? 60% of UT Engineering students are international.
@5Solas Exactly. You try telling them that our creeds are simply a compilation of our beliefs by topic with many scripture verses backing up each point but they don't want to understand. We need to remind them that they too have many doctrines, just not written down and studyable.
@nicole_sax@DineshDSouza He hasn't read a single resource that many Reformed Christians have tried to put forward. He's having too much fun insulting his fellow Christians.
@goodwind67@DineshDSouza He's gleefully tearing down straw men and acting like he just won a debate that has been going on for centuries. He also hasn't read a single suggested resource put forth.
@DineshDSouza Well no, they wouldn't, because they didn't. The gospel of Grace and Sovereignty is, besides being Biblical, immensely comforting. Anyone reaching out to Christ is among His sheep because nothing else could make them reach out, and He has never slapped anyone's hand away.
@DineshDSouza So God's plan failed. He sent his son to die for everyone's sins and then had to sit up in heaven while millions rejected his gift. Our God isn't that small.
@realjodyB@DineshDSouza Lol, yeah same. I guess you haven't cracked one, but theology books are crammed with Bible verses sorted by the topic you're studying.
@DineshDSouza The alternative is unthinkable and unbiblical; Christ died for all but then had to sit up in heaven, just hoping some of us are good enough to "choose" Him, but knowing He failed and died for many who won't.
